I recorded the England v Czech friendly internation yesterday and then watched it last night. New manger/coach, new stadium, new era we are told........ and Bugger me, same old same ol. Somethings never change. 1, It rained, 2, not a sell out for a England game, and 3....we were awful, again. Jeez, what is it with England. We have argueably the most competitive league in the world and yet are national team flat out sucks. Those other hyped, over paid prima donnas need to take a look at all the British boys and girls in China who are giving their all to win for themsleves and for the nation. What does our football team do, run around like a bunch of **** wondering whos getting the first round after the match. Makes my blood boil. Incedently. You guys over in the old country. How come they didnt close the roof for the game. Or is it only the stadium in Cardiff that has a moveable roof?

Scotland v Northern Ireland game for me. 0 - 0 and a good workout for both teams with Sir David Healy missing a penalty I think both will do well in their world cup groups
As for England - same team as previous manager same shocking display by all accounts. Time to move on from Becham (and David James) and get the winning mentality with England (as team GB have shown). I believe the spirit is there with Northern Ireland (in particular - given their relative size)and Scotland but England don't have it. Yet there is no question they have some of the best players in the world (Bekham and James excluded). Spain used to be the non-achievers of the football world - at the moment it is England.
Will they qualify for the world cup? I think so but they need a good kick up the butt! I think Scotland will scrape through with Northern Ireland probably missing out (but only just and I hope I am wrong) and Wales - no chance (sorry folks)!
I blame the number of foreign players in the top teams - how many English players are there in the Arsenal team? Is it 1?
By the sounds of it they didn't deserve the roof - let it rain on them!

You make some good points. And a couple that i totally disaggree with. Quote:

Im an Arsenal supporter so you know im going to disagree with that one. Fact remains, if the English boys were good enough they would get in to the top teams. They arn't so they dont.

Nah, sorry. I believe that England have been the worlds underachievers sine 1974. 1990 being the only blip when they made it to the semifinal in Italy. But, it must also be said that that was the most defensive World Cup in history and England made it through by the skin of their teeth and penalty shoot outs.
Beckham, give me a break. The boys a has been. Thats why non of the European clubs want him, and hes playing in a 2nd rate MLS team. And as for the goalkeepers, bloody heII what went worng there. We have had a history of would class keepers, Banks, Clemance, Shilton, Seaman, and what do we have now. Robinson and James. Bugger me, i would be better, and im crap in goal.
Yesterday was a typical England performance. Long balls, bad passes, and hit and hope shots from 25 yards.
Roll on saturday, lets see how the real players do it. Come on Arsenal

Arsenalfan Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea have there fair share of English players and they are 3 of the best teams in the world (along with Arsenal) - I expect one of them to lift the Champions League trophy this year. My point on Arsenal was a little tickle on your ribs - that the desired effect I am not English so I can look at it from the outside. England have the players - no question! Terry, Lampard, Ferdinand, Barry, Rooney, Joe Cole and especially Gerrard are all world class. Your point about the goalie is well made. Robinson lacks confidence and James is just plain cr*p! I was a goalie (still put the gloves on now and again) and haven't seen a good one since Shilton. You need a good keeper - most important possition on the park! The question is Is Capello Crapello?

I saw the gaem last night too... After the first ten minutes...CRAPOlla!
I mean, come on WES BROWN scored... minutes after the commentator stated that he doesn't like it up front and prefers defence.
I think if we want better english players, the government need to get their hands in their pockets... same goes for the Olympic squads!

I dont know what the answer is. One thing i am sure off, Englands demise in the world standings as a football power has nothing to do with the influx of foreign players. If anything you would think that that would have the reverse. All these young players getting to play alongside these skill full players you would think would make the emglish boys raise their game.
One thing, i believe the pride to wear your national shirt has gone. It does not seem inportant to the players any more. Even the fans are losing interest. Look how many empty seats there were in the ground yesterday. I remember as a kid going to Wembley to watch england, the ground was sold out and you came home with bells in your ears from the noise of the singing and your arms hurt like heII form the flag waving. What happened to that.

Agreed on most points, especially the lack of a decent keeper. Sad news is James appears to be the best at the moment. Robinson and Carson's recent form has made the gaffers' decision a bit easier.
A few questions...
1) with the midfield setup, why the longball so often? 2) why is Lampard playing? i'm sure he's a nice guy, but imho he's vastly overrated. 3) why Gerrard in left? Cappello's statement about him playing behind the strikers might have been the idea (not a bad one) but it didn't look that way. 4) why is Heskey in the team (still)? wouldn't it work better to have Rooney/Defoe or Rooney by himself. no more Crouch? 5) i agree w/comments on Beckham, but he didn't look any worse than many others (not a Beckham fan, just my take on that performance. He is not the future.) 6) Downing up front? 7) how can people lobby for JT and Rio as captain w/the statement about that being the way to get the most out of them. seems to me the last person i'd want as a captain is the type of player that wouldn't give their all unless they had the armband. 8) after the completely disappointing WC06 and Euro08 qualifying and these friendlies, when do you see them putting it together? 9) what happened to Barry? never seen him play that poorly either.

All your questions are good questions and the sad thing is Cappello, nor the FA have the answers. Im always the optimist and i'm sure England will qualify for the World Cup on 2010. But as usual they will leave it till the very last game.
Sad thing is, they are going to have to do it with the current squad of players. I do not see where the next generation of players are coming from.

The new players should come from the club academys, but sadly due to the influx of foreign players, clubs have let them dwindle (apart from a few). I think they already are making headway with academys for the future due to rumours of only be able to have so many foreign players per side in the prem etc. But it's too little too late imho! As for Beckham, people say he's overated, but I have to disagree to a certain extent.... he provides MANY a decent ball... 99.9% of the time, there is no-one there to make use of it

I saw a headline in one of the papers this morning regarding our overpaid prima-donna England team, "Win or lose, it doesn't matter, we still get our gold", and I think that about sums it up perfectly!! As regards our domestic league, "Come on you Super Seagulls!! Brighton and Hove Albion for promotion this season.
