Everything evolves, everything changes. Didn't someone already say they couldn't keep their edge as rich old white guys? There are plenty of talented, young, drug and/or booze addled losers out there playing "edgy" metal.
I loved St. Anger and S&M. I also love Kill 'Em All through And Justice For All and the Black album. Are they the same? Heck no! Neither do I want the same ol' same ol' every album.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

You can tell it is Metallica, but it is not the Metallica that boils your blood and makes you want to smash someone in the face!!!!!!!!! I am a little older and hopefully wiser, but I miss those days. Eventhough this is not want I really crave from Metallica, it is way better than the majority of crap on the radio these days. P.S. Altime favorite is Master of Puppets.

you gotta admit friar, they all the sudden got back into metal just now and its not so much a coiencidence that metal is pretty popular with kids as we speak. Raps dead and gone at the moment, guitar hero's dominating, metalocolypse is a 15minute show and is on its 3rd season and has no signs of slowing down. Some manager dude told them its time to make some hard stuff and ride this next wave.
I welcome change though, load was a good album especially if it was from another band with a different name. But who wants to be slayer and motorhead?...Yeah they got all the street cred. but they play the same songs over and over.

I often wonder what would Metallica be like if they had kept Dave Mustaine or if Cliff Burton hadn't died.
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

hammets better i think....cliff burton?...thats a whole separate thing. He was the only one that actually was going to school and learning about compositions and theory. Thats why the earlier stuff had so much texture and complexity. Hes probably the only reason why classical musicians favor metallica covers

I like a lot of Megadeth stuff, too, except that one album where he sacrificed the quality of the music on the alter of politics.

my buddy just listened to this one and said it had potential. He said it didnt sound like a fully mastered mix though. Like the drums were too high in the mix. And I heard the first single off the site and thought the same thing. So Im guessing its possible they'll have a better sound on the record.

If Hatfield's voice was stronger you would guess it was 1988 and your where listening to an unreleased Justice track \m/

I heard "My Apocalypse" on XM today, via Opie & Anthony. It was OK, most of the other songs I've heard all pretty much sound the same. I have higher hopes for the new Motorhead disc out today, "Motorizer", if only for the cover! Lemmy rules, even if he is dyeing his beard now.... Motorizer Quote:

To be honest it would sound better if Slayer or Machinehead had done that song but I can appreciate that it might not be the fully finished track. And here's a top tip for you good folks out there - when gardening out the front of the house - don't sing along to Metallica if you have headphones on - you get some very strange looks from the neighbours. I found that out yesterday!

I heard the first single, not the second. My opinion is that the songs good and all, but it tries too hard.

That's what I like about Metallica, always that bit of uncertainty what the new album's going to be like To be honest I like them all, recordings have been a bit hit & miss on certain albums IMO though. And really couldn't get my ears round Lar's snare on St. Anger, had to record the live stuff you get with the album in the end, snare's OK on that! Real pity we missed them last weekend at Leeds Festival, tried to get tickets months ago for the weekend but they'd sold out within hours. Metallica & Rage Against The Machine at same venue...awsome!

And another blast from the past... Anthrax. For a band who don't take them selves too serious, reckon they still rock IMO!
