A friend asked me recently what I thought about the Confederate bikes? I didn't know anything about them or that they were built in Birmingham, AL. The company started in LA, but moved after Katrina. They make some radical bikes which lean toward the high tech sports variety with some cruiser influence.

Interesting, but I think I'll stick with Triumph. They sell T-shirs on their website for $75.00 each, if anyone would like one.

You have to admit the 131 Combat (look under machines) is interesting, if you like high tech expensive stuff. Supposedly, Tom Cruise rides one. If their T-shirt costs $75., it's not surprising their bikes cost over $70,000.

I don't like the Wraith, but love the Hellcat and the America GT.

A co-worker bought a HellCat a few years back. Unique. Back then, it had the fattest rear tire I'd ever seen on a bike, but he said the frame made it handle well. Not what I'd want to ride on a regular basis though. Mean motor! Think he paid about 45K for it. Better him than me.

The attraction to these things is power and acceleration. The problem is, for $45K, it's not too difficult to build a car that will blow them off any street in America.

The few bike magazine reviews I've read has indicated they have plenty of problems and are a big pile of compromises (handling, etc.) I like the crazy, "Mad Max" look, but no way I'd lay out that kind of coin. Haven't heard much about them lately, this economy sure can't be helping their brand sales.

Power:
Torque ≥ 150 ft. lbs. / Horsepower ≥ 149
Ultra high compression, ported and polished head design
with special application camshift grind.

Dimensions:
Weight: 490lbs.; Wheelbase: 62"; Length: 86";
Seat Height: 28"; Width (at handlebars): 32"

Engine:
Confederate radial F131 CID
(4.375" bore x 4.375" stroke; entirely machined from

Yow, that's a LOT of HP & torque.

I guess you need to put into perspective what you're looking at. Ducati has a new sports bike that's high tech and getting a lot of attention as does KTM. This bike doesn't look way off from some of those to me. It's not what I'm looking for in a bike, but I still find it's interesting what designers can do mixing old and new technology. I think that's why I kinda like the Combat one.

That is a ton of torque and HP for a bike that only weighs 490lbs!

one of these is on ebay right now. Im guessing it was just a customized cruiser and not a ground up build.

I was in a dealership some years ago in Baltimore where they had a Hellcat on the showroom floor. Some guy walks up and says to the salesman "aw, it's just trying to be a Harley."

The salesman just looked at him and smiled.

After the fellow left, the guy turned to me and said "that guy has no idea. what an a...hole." I smiled and nodded.

The Hellcat was and is one of my favorite bikes ever... and I'd love to have one... if I had a spare couple million, I guess. :P

Confederate was initially based in New Orleans, but after Katrina the company sort've detonated. They're trying to reform in Alabama, I believe, but apparently there are "issues."

Their earlier work was a little more... um... "normal"
I recall an interview with the owner and he really likes to deviate from the norm...
Too bad they are so expensive. $75 for a t-shirt... geez, it's a wonder they don't charge you to download the wallpaper images on their website.
