I had one attack my pc while it was idle and it took over, removed display controls from the desktop after changing the background to tell me to buy a system cleaner. same thing happened to me. here's how i fixed it
click on start and scroll to "all programs" then scroll to
"accessories" next scroll to "system tools" then scroll to
"system restore" then click on "restore my computer to an earlier time" pick a date before you had the problem and restore to that date and all the persistent junk will be gone.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey,free lemons.
