So I am thinking about going with a shield and hard bags and better seats to make the Speedy more comfortable two-up. Going to buy another bike just for single riding. Or might make the Speedy the single and buy a better two-up. Anyone have any opinions on this. Its an 04 800 Speedy, so i think it might be short just a bit of power to be used for two up real comfortable. But I am open to suggestions. Wife wants a better seat (has a pillion pad) and I need a shield. Let it fly folks.

What kind of two-up miles are you talking? 50, 500, or touring? Interstate or secondary roads?

If you are going to buy a new bike either way then buy one for 2 up and solo the SM. I never found my SM lacking for 2 up but I come from riding a 66 TR6C chopper with a hard tail frame and long springer for 2 up. Never wanted another until we both put on weight and now the SM handels us both but I never ride 2 up anymore since we got her her own bike.

If you are riding two up to the bar or less than 500 miles get an America seat set and sissybar.

I would look at the Yamaha FJR before buying anything else.

Keep it in the Family.
A 2001 or 2 Trophy 1200 would run about $5000.

IMO, speedies are gorgeous solo bikes,(ok, I'm a bit biased) and there are lots of purpose built tourers out there. No brainer to me.

ride when I can, work when I have to

Sounds like making the Speedy the single is the best way to go.
