I just had a new rear tire (tyre) put on at the dealer (I had a puncture) and now the rear brakes are very soft. Hardly any bite at all.

I'm the worlds 2nd worst mechanic, but my theory is that the brakes probably need some bleeding.

That sound good? Anyone have a better theory?

Soft brakes usually means there is air in the system. Bleeding required. If this is the way you received the bike after the tire repair take it back to the dealer. A rear tire removal (I'm assuming that's what they did) shouldn't require bleeding of the rear brake system. Check the rear brake line going to the caliper. It is possible it was damaged during the repair if the caliper wasn't handled properly.

1) Check the fluid in the Master Cylinder
2) Check your rear brake pads for wear

Check for grease on the rotor too. Some " mechanics" are rather sloppy.

The rear brake line went bad on my 03 America. Suggested replacement interval is 4 years.
I'm putting braided cables on this weekend.
