JUst saw Gooseman's bike and it has a 120 on the front with stock fender that just needed to be raised, looked realy cool with a tight fit. So the answer is yes on your tire, if no fender, 130 may well work.

A Metzler Marathon XXL 130/70-18 fits very well, no mods needed.

It's only 3mm taller than a stock 110/80.

Is there any noticeable change in handeling with the larger tire? I always felt that the more similar the width of the tire the better the handeling. Could be just me though.

It handles great. I have no problem with the quick-twitch, this-moron's-going-to-run-me-over, snap out of the way.

I have to concur.

After seeing BrianT's post from way back about the 130/70 fitting I had one put on a few months ago and I like it much better than the lazertech.

Installed the Marathon 880 130/70-18 front tire yesterday and it sure looks alot better. After a short test ride I must say she handles great and steady. A little bit harder to turn on corners but nothing to worry about.

P.S. Installed the Progressive Suspension fork springs at the same time (thanks to fasteddy) and they also make a big difference over stock springs.

best place to buy tyres in uk is e bay and seller "roundandblack" best prices and quick delivery and if you want to buy more than one tyre (two or tubes) message him first to avoid multiple postage

120/90 on mine too.

There's a kit from british customs for a fat rear tire, I think a 200.

So if he knows you propably know since you didn´t put the 130 tire on your bike and I would appreciate if you would tell me.

The tire fits perfectly on the rim so that cannot be the reason and I had mine installed by a pro and they didn´t think there is any problem, so...???

Or did I misunderstood something (I´m quite good at that)?

Harald-
A 130/70 front fits, no fender mods needed.
It works.
I've got 9500 miles on mine.
No worries.
Check out the pic near the beginning of this thread.
If you like the looks, use it.

Yes yes, I already did and it fits perfectly, looks much better, handles great and so on. Wouldn´t change back.

Just started wondering when somebody writes we shouldn´t use that "130" tire on our bikes, without any explanation of course.´

I've got the 130/70 on my TBS wheel and 18" TBA hoop, but I haven't had the time (or the weather, or the health) to mount her up. I've always had Avons since the original tires and I've tried the 100/90 and currently the 120/90. Don't know that I have enough experience to tell the difference but the 120 didn't feel any "heavier" than the 100.

I see from the posts above that 130/70-18 fits without any mods and the 120/90 requires a mild mod to the fender bracket. Soooo
Has anyone ever tried a Metzler 130/80-18 tire before? Any good or bad feedback would be appreciated. Would it fit without any mods?

From the sizes given the diameters are as follows.

130/70-18=====639.2mm.

130/80-18=====665.2mm.

120/90-18=====673.2mm.

Work it out from there.

OK, so I need a tyre THIS week... decided on the 130 / 70 18 but where ever I locate them they ALL state REAR.

Can someone UK based point me to a decent priced 130/70-18 supplier please.

Thanks,

Don´t know any UK dealers and can´t help with "this week" but sure can recommend the internet store I bought my tire from:

Mynetmoto.com

As a relatively nice guy (not), I even searched the tire ready for you with UK price.

I ordered mine from them and it took like a week to arrive to Finland.

Have one ordered for tomorrow so should have it fitted by the afternoon all being well, supplied, fitted, balanced £93

Blackandround quoted £91.50 delivered so I think I got a decent deal... looking at the old tyre.. bald in the middle BRAND new on the outer edges, even has the pimples still on the outer edges, LOL bet the new one gets worn all over now I have sorted the handling out

How did this happened? Just riding all straight never catching any corners? Didn´t think your island is that big, or is it?

Well I am unable to stand the amount of P*** taking I will get if I told the truth so for now.. accept the fact its only worn in the middle, lets say, it was over inflated, there, that sounds good..

Yep I ordered one, the A1 Avon Viper 130/70 - 18 hope to get it on tomorrow and will post back after Ive ridden it maybe a photo or 2

130 fitted, can hardly notice any difference in size, its about 1" larger when stood next to the old one, wonder what effect it is having on speedo accuracy?

Defo handles a LOT better, Im well pleased.

Good deal, since you got real money coming in from the lottery. Here in Finland it´s normally like half a million to million euros and when you pay half a million for a nice house, it doesn´t really make you rich to win the lottery. Maybe makes you independent from the bank, but rich, NOT!

Sorry OT!

Hey Guys I am replacing my stock tires for the 1st time and I would like to go a lil'bigger and I want white walls. I keep reading about Maxxis being the preferred brand but getting harder to find and Dunlop is the next best thing. Anyone know what the biggest i can go without alot of mods to the Fenders and whats the verdict on tubless vs. tubed and can the original stock rims supporta tubless tire? I really appreciate all the help you guys give out..

The wire wheels have to have tubes. The laced rims are not air tight or designed for tubeless tires.

You can use "tubeless" tires with tubes inside. The maxxis are marked tubeless and what I & a few members here currently have front and rear with tubes inside. Maxxis doesnt specify either way exactly on the tire that you "can" go with tubes, but the dunlop whitewalls rated tubeless actually say on the side "in case of tube tire use tube"

Im not sure what sizes you'll be able to get for the front without a fender modification though. I just ride with no front fender.
