Just a bit of unverified trivia regarding the 'Thunderbird' name. I read somewhere recently that Triumph 'owned' the name 'Thunderbird' back in the 50's and licensed Ford to use it at their request for a car they were designing. This is akin to a verified bit of similar trivia regarding how Triumph (the separate car company) received permission from Supermarine to use the name 'Spitfire' and a new sports car they were about to market, which was up to that time, code-named the 'Bomb.'
