Why can't they make them like this anymore?

Well Bill, they still do! Well, kind'a anyway. They make 'em in India. They're called Royal Enfields.

And then there's those Ruskies over there still makin' those Urals too, don't forget.

(BTW...that IS one sweet lookin' little old TWN you've posted a picture of, alright!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

yeah but the enfields don't have the spring frames and I have heard some horror stories about their quality
The Urals are ok but I would prefer a vertical twin.
The Chiang Jiang bikes like the Urals follow the original BMW lines but I would sincerely worry about quality as well.

Well, you know why motorcycle frame designers eventually went with the swing-arm rear suspension don't ya Bill? Those "plunger" style rear suspensions would often cause the rear axle to flex at an angle from true, whereas even the first old narrow tube swinging arm setups were less prone to flex.

But, yep! Those plunger-syle setups are kind'a cool looking, alright.
