I often wonder if stuff like this would be reduced if trackdays were made more affordable and more accessible for both cars and bikes.

On the police car thing yep they do have some serious kit in the car although a lot of traffic police will deny it. I did a ride along with police traffic and the level of their driving is unbelievable.

Good point

I did the Bike Safe Workshop with the police and that was first class (www.bikesafe.co.uk). After a bit of theory stuff you get a motorcycle cop assigned to you and he follows behind taking a critical look at your riding. Obviously you have a copper on your tail to I am riding very cautiously keeping within the speed limit etc. After about 45 mins riding we pull over for a chat. He asks me how it went and I leveled with him. I said it was difficult because there were occasions where I would have given the bike some fist to overtake those divers that are driving slow. However, in order to do this it would mean that we would need to go over the speed limit for a mile or so. He said get on with it, take it up to 70 - 80 mph until you get a mile ahead then ease up. Also get yourself over the lines so you can see around the corner and keep your bike upright. Keep to the limit in built up areas and watch out for cameras. After that we had a great 3 hour ride out! Must say was a bit strange having a copper following me doing 80 in a 60!

At the end they give you a comprehensive report on your riding. 13 categories rated A through to D. I got an overall B with some A's but mostly B's. Did highlight some important stuff and so very useful stuff and has made me a better rider. It also highlighted that they are only interested in lunatics. The cameras however don't discriminate
