Hi all. Anyone know of any aftermarket offerings for gear position indicator for 2005 Speedmaster? I called Acumen, they make the DG8 and was told will not work on Speedmaster. Would like similar device if it's out there. Thanks in advance.

Problem with these devices is that they work by comparing the rpm with the speed, and require an electronic tacho AND speedo. Since our speedo works off a cable it's not going to happen, unless you change your speedo for an electronic one like the dakota digitals etc. Do that and pretty much any gear indicator'll work.

Matt,

Thanks. You're right. Found out all indicators I looked at, i.e. DG8,Lumina,Gearite,etc, require digital tach/speedo. One site claimed they'll have a mechanical version coming soon but I wont hold my breath. Website's update is from 2002.

What for? The bike comes with one as stock - the tach! When the lever won't shift up any more, you're in top ...if you look at the tach, you can tell from the mph/rpm what gear you're in...if you really need to know..

Speedy23,

Not the actual related question for topic but noted. Gee, is that what that round dial is on top of the gas tank?

I thought there were some out there that hooked up to the shifter itself and just gave a reading that way... Like you tell it "this is 1st" and it just toggles up from there.

Try Norman Hyde in the UK at the following address http://www.normanhyde.co.uk/ and download the cattledog and price list, the actual part number they list is HBK118. Just noticed this is the brand someone mentioned above, but Norman Hyde do have a digital speedo for sale too.

regards,

Cruser

From the same site, what do we all think this is?

It's described as an ENGINE MANAGEMENT UNIT
Fits: Hinckley Thruxton, Hinckley Bonneville, America/Speedmaster. Can be programmed readily by you to be a tachometer, a gear indicator or a high road speed reminder. Looks like it would fit in the tank console maybe.

Well, Bill, I'm gonna date myself a bit, but, it looks like a 'Simon Says' game from the late 70's or early 80's.

I guess we're the same age pipedr, 30 right? hehe. Fun game during simpler times before the Sony's and Xbox. As for the Acumen, I ordered it today and if anyone's interested(am I reaching?) I could post a pic. Take care.

I can tell Joker is one of the more inviting of forum people. Such a cheery "arse" is he. Cheers Joker. Hehe.

I don't have any idea how hard it would be to adapt one to a Triumph, but the 400 - 450 suzuki twins in the late 70's and later had an LED gear indicator run by a small encoding wheel attached the end of the shift drum shaft.
If you find one and it's still on the bike, don't buy it untill you see it work. The voltage regulation on those biks is total crap and the gear display is the first thing to fry after the headlight when the volts go up.
