I've been told its time to replace my chain by my mechanic. He suggested replacing the sprockets at the same time.

Can anyone recommend good replacements? I ride about 4000 miles a year. I have about 24,000 miles on the originals.

Thanks,

Ted

I got an RK chain from FastEddysports.com and an 18 tooth sprocket and giant socket to change it with from NewBonneville.com. I changed at 24K miles also. They are working out fine. It was cheaper then the Triumph chain kit, and they ship real fast.

I am at 20k now and yesterday bought the aluminum 525/112 with sprockets from http://www.Fasteddysports.com.

I think I could have pushed mine but the alternative is to leave it behind you on the highway and call a tow truck. Cheap enough to replace every few years.

Just changed mine after 24 K. Bought the stock truimph part, I still think that you can't beat Triumph quality on most of the stock parts. Only thing, I asked about the connecting link system a while ago. I knew the Trumpet came with a pressed on link, and the dealer said no problem, the replacement comes with the clip type link system. On arrival, no nice quick clip, only a press on type. I Didn't have a chain vise so I cheated and managed to carefully manuever it on a little at a time with a vise grip and some patience.

Make sure you take it to a cycle shop and have that sucker riveted.! Could have a really bad day if it were to come off!

There's some truth to that in this case.
All other things equal, steel should outlast aluminum by a substantial margin.
Also, the Triumph part is a bit thinner at the hub, which lets the mounting nuts go on a little better.

I assume though, that Triumph still doesn't make an 18/42 combination. All I was able to find part numbers on was a 17/42 (original America) and 16/42 (original Speedmaster). It there any other TA or SM package available?

I'm probably going to go with the Honda sprockets and regular 530 chain when I change mine. I'll be doing it soon I think. I neglect mine only lubed it 4 or 5 times in 19,000 miles and never cleaned it. My sprockets still look fine and the chain is OK right now but even a well maintianed chain needs to be replaced after time, so probably end of next season I'll be changing mine. I will compare the prices and go with the best bang for my buck.

Is that gonna aggravate the situation I mentioned re: sprocket hub thickness?

Haven't tried them yet so don't know yet but if I see a problem when I do it I'll post it. Personally if there is a thickness problem I'll just shave a little metal off on my lathe.

Which model Honda are you borrowing from? I'd be very interested in hearing the results of this when it's done. I remember the 530 chain being very reliable.

I had to replace my chain and sprockets at 22,000 miles....since I was happy with the sprocket ratio, I chose to use Triumph parts....after all, the original set lasted 22,000 miles and $190 over that many miles just didn't seem very expensive.....

I assume you guys are going with the 17/42 Triumph America kit? Have they added any different ratio kits? Aren't the new models 18/42 or are they 18/43?
