Well let's see Tom... The airbox and stock filter with the snorkles are restrictive(in flow). the stock exhaust is restrictive(out flow) The stock 120 jets carb. jets restrict fuel to prevent a to rich running condition. Only as a sugestion if I was you and had a lack of solid mechanical abilities as you have stated, I would get the K&N filter found here:
http://www.newspeedmaster.com/html/k_and_n_air_filter.html
And pull the snorkles out: Theres three of them, Up in the box thru the top hole reach your hand in towards the carbs and the rubber tubes(snokles) should come out with some tugging and yanking, then remove or cut off the bottom of the main inlet snorkle. I dont have any pics of this but search under airbox mods and you can find plenty of info. Then: remove the float bowls from the carbs and replace the stock 120 main jets with 140-150's as a sugestion You'll be pleased with either, You can get them here:
http://www.newspeedmaster.com/html/keihin_carburetor_jets.html
Then: Remove the stock exhaust and replace with any brand or length that you like and the bikes performance will be greatly inhanced. To go the Freak (airbox removal system found here:

May be a bit more than you want to tackle unless you have someone put in on for ya. The rest is a piece of cake.
