I dont know how many of you ever find my posts interesting, and I dont know if the lounge is the place for a post about a ride/rally, but then again, I dont really care. I went to Sturgis last Friday, and got home on Thursday morning. Some of the "elders" here said go any other time than Bike Week, but to me thats what it was all about. I had a FANTASTIC time, and plan on going many more times now. I will ride every time, until my body cant take it any more. Then I may get one of those "couch bikes". Anyway, the trip up there was good, took the road less traveled, went on state highways as much as I could. The roads in the Black Hills are some of the best I have ever ridden. I could have stayed there for so much longer riding around, but I have to work for gas money, so I had to come home. The touristy things to do were cool too, Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, I was most impressed with Crazy Horse. Just huge. The towns along the highways there are very neat and a lot of old west history to be learned there. I think I was least impressed by the actual town of Sturgis itself, more of a flea market, with everyone selling the same crap. I really had a good time, and if anyone has the chance to go, I recommend it. I decided (kind of on a whim) that I can cover the ride home at one time, and so I went for the Iron Butt 1000 in 24. I left Custer at 7 am Wednesday and got home at 1:30 am Thursday morning. 1010 miles. I hope that when I send all the paperwork to them, I dont get disqualified due to a couple technicalities. Nothing major, but I dont know how strict they are on some of the rules. Regardless, I know that I did it, and I was on the America for 17 hours straight. I did buy a backrest for the Corbin seat from their tent in Sturgis, that was a real lifesaver. I dont think I would have made it without that. Very good investment for long distances. Anyway, thats the short version of my nice road trip to Sturgis
