This is for you guys who wrap their pipes---on my '07 SM, the pipes have a welded on heat shield. Should the shields be cut off and then wrapped? 'cause go'n over the shields seems kinda weird..............

Heat wrap is strictly cosmetic on double wall pipes. So yeah, it's kinda weird.

Like FJ said its strictly cosmetic, so go with whatever looks good to you! Some might think it looks weird (FJ is pretty weird himself, so he'd know it if he saw it), but I really like the look. I wrapped the header pipes on my bike and stopped at the junction.
I will note that, for those of you with little ones at home, it makes me feel a little more comfortable knowing that at least some of the hot bits are covered in the event my son or daughter get to close to the bike after a ride...
Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

Do you have any pics? I have been thinking of doing this as I am sick of looking at my blue pipes.

Here you go! As you can see, the black wrap fades over time. I've had the current wrap on there for almost two years maybe.

That's what I was thinking. Did you just wrap right around the heat shields on the lower part? Looks good except for the fading which is inevitable.

hijack away--- as to the footpeg question,,just unscrew said footpeg, unbolt the hanger, and screw the footpeg into the lower hanger/muffler mount hole,,,,,,

I'll have to try it. Didn't think the bolt was long enough.

Buy header wrap paint at autozone. I havent done it to mine yet, but did it on a buddies Norton and another HD. Looks great! ALSO, for those of you interested in doing this, I reccommend buying automotive wrap...it is cheaper and you get more.
Best looking black girl around!
2004 SM-spokes, solo seat, lowered rear, 14 in apes, bobber rear fender, no front fender. Flat black all the way around.
