I use Amsoil 10w-40 on my Goldwing, but the dealer recommended Mobil-1/15/50 for my '04 Speedmaster. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I would say Amsoil 20w-50 Syn High Performance Motorcycle oil would be a better choice, but then again I am biased. The following is Amsoils writeup on the 20W-50 oil Motorcycle oil.

If you don't mind the price go with the recommened oil. There are many discussions here on this subject just check the archives. But If you do you will open up a nasty can of worms that you will never be able to put to rest again. Best to just stick with the mfg recomendations. You will sleep better at night.

I'm with Tom on the Amsoil. Been using it for 11K and it has performed most excellent. Availabklity and cost we my consideration and performance specs, well they all claim teh best. Just make sure you choose an oil that goes by manufactures specs, Amsoil as well as others do.

I like olive oil for most cooking but canola oil is better if you are cooking chinese food. Neither of these work well in my bike so I went back to AMSOIL 10w-40. 20w50 in the summer

For a pic of ol' AZAL, look here: http://www.haguepartners.com/alansbio.html

I don't think it's a matter of which oil so much as it's a matter of how often one changes it, especially if one is using a multi-vis oil.

Amsoil just came out with a new line of Ea (Ea = Advanced full nanofiber technology) oil filters for cars/trucks. Hopefully this new technology will find its way into their motorcycle oil filters. If it does it will double the filters life for our bikes to 8,000 miles or a year. For cars/trucks it has a expected life of 25,000 miles or one year.

Both the new owner's manual and my service dealer state that my 05 TA doesn't need an oil change until 6000 miles (not counting break in at 500) using the recommended synthetic oil. Are you guys saying that it should be done sooner? I'll probably put the 6000 miles on the bike in one year.

Amsoils recommended change interval for their Motorcycle oil is twice the manufacturers recommended change interval. My manual has the recommended change interval at 4000 miles. If your manual says 6000 miles then you can run the oil for 12000 miles and still be within Amsoils warranty. I would change the filter every 6 months or 6000 miles. Under severe operating conditions I would only run the bike to 8000 miles, and change the filter at 4000 miles.

Currently I just change my oil once a year and change the oil filter every 6 months. In almost 3 years I only have 10,500 miles on my bike.

I only have 1600 miles on the bike right now. My tentative plans are to go by the book, 6000 or 1 year, whichever comes first. I'm already planning to go to Daytona in March (900 miles round trip) so I'm not sure which will come first. Not too fond of riding in cold weather. Fortunately, we have enough warm days to not have to quit riding.

Oh for Heaven's sake Paul. Everybody knows peanut oil is best for Chinese.
