so, i've put down my deposit on a 2009 america, which should arrive at the dealers in august. what i'm wondering is whether the asking price is the price i get, or do i have some wiggle room? i know that a lot of 'other' companies have about 1000 dollars between their costs and the msrp, which allows for wiggling and haggling. however, i've also heard that triumph costs are pretty close to msrp, and that generally the price they're asking is the price you pay. i know that the dealer has to make some money, but i am not interested in losing my shirt either. i just want to be fair to them, without feeling like i'm getting taken advantage of.

My dealer has told me that the margin is only a couple hundred dollars. He sells for MSRP. No haggling.

Depending on local taxes, license, paint, dealer prep etc., I would expect you to pay roughly $9300 to $9600 out-the-door for the basic machine (if MSRP doesn't change for 2009).

Unless the factory has marked down the price, everyone pays MSRP, like Deon already mentioned, there just isnt any wiggle room to negotiate the price.

Sometimes and only sometimes, you may be able to negotiate a little bit on freight and set up. And sometimes and only sometimes, on accessories if you buy them when you purchase your bike.

There's ALWAYS something you can barter / haggle / get thrown in / steal!
I've always paid the list price for my bikes but I also always got something thrown in .... on the T100, the America and the Scrambler it was off road pipes, on the ST it was a rear top box carrier and coloured inserts for the panniers / top box, on the Rocket, it was a deal on the ST trade in plus I've always had accessories fitted gratis.
Also, I'm usually a bit cheeky for a short while after buying a new bike and I try to get discount on any new gear I buy (t-shirts etc).

They will usually always haggle on something to get the order ..... reading your thread though, if you've paid your deposit and the order is in place - I'm guessing here - but I'd say he's got you by the nuts when it comes to haggling for anything.
That would be the case in the UK.

To be honest though, when the bike comes, you'll be more than happy with it ... whether you paid list or not

If you are putting money down now for a 2009, you are probably going to pay full price. If you are willing to buy a 2007 or 2008 leftover at the end of the season, you will probably get a much better deal.

yeah, i got 15% on all accessories, including roadster windscreen (which i am wondering if that that was a mistake, as i am 6'4", and hearing issues with wind buffeting one's head about like a punching bag on tall fellows), short TORs, and the 18L saddlebags, for the bike, as well as a new jacket, helmet, gloves, and pants, lol. i hear good things about the dealership i'm working with, so i am inclined to believe that they are being fair with me. and yeah, the cost on the new bikes is 700 higher than it was on the 2008's.

If you can, wait till the end of the season. I picked up my '07 at a significantly lower price than MSRP + tax, title etc. Plus, I got $1500 in acessories (Freak + Bubs) thrown in. Quite the deal. Best of all, I got the better looking tank! The big draw back, especially in the northern parts, is driving home in freezing temps. For an extra $75, I had it delivered 30 miles.

2007 Custom America with BUBs I make my own parts cause I cant afford to buy theirs.

I don't think there are any deals like that this year. The bikes are moving out quickly, and from what I can tell, there really aren't any leftovers. When I inquired recently about a blue/white America, I sent e-mails to almost every major dealer in Texas. Most replied that they had no Americas left at all. I hauled a trailer 150 miles to Dallas to pick mine up, and I feel lucky to have it.

BTW, kudos to RPM Cycles for one of the most professional operations I've seen.

it seems as though the price is set to be msrp..the difference in my purchase was discount on accessaries and free installation of parts..I went 37miles out of way to make the deal...I would not haggle over price..get quality service and an honest dealership..those are things you cant pay enough for!!!

life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

My last two Triumph's I bought at dealer cost only because they were left over models. Otherwise expect to pretty much pay MSRP. Where you can save some $$$ as noted earlier is ask for discounts on add-on's. They just don't have that much markup on the bikes to move off msrp. Pick you battles, you might save some $$ down the road on service or parts.

Sales of bikes are going great, but some dealers make deals. SHpo around. I got mine $1700.00 off the sticker and that included everything. It was a last year's model, but it does indicate how much margin is there.
