When I lived in San Diego for many years, I would travel up to Costa Mesa and Newport Beach to visit my friends all the time. It has a ton of stuff to see and do. But you will be seeing it and doing it with 100 million other people.

Tons of people.

Lots of great music, food, bars.
Traffic sux.
Great beaches, with great big crowds.
Traffic sux even more at the beaches.
But, it can be a blast as long as you can afford it and get into a decent neighborhood.
