I've had good results with Maxium Chain Wax but I clean the chain every 500 miles before re-spraying. Cleaning is just spinning the wheel while gripping the chain with a rag soaked in kerosene. I wipe a few times and let dry before re-waxing. Once a year I remove the sprocket cover, look for any buildup and clean. No problem slinging off - be careful not to over spray.
