So, I get off the plane in Missoula this evening and this is the sign above the gate door... Hmmmm... is that the best they could think of, "We like it here"? The city of Missoula needs to hire themselves a new PR firm. But, anyway, it is nice here. It had just finished raining when I got off the plane. The rain here smells different than the rain we have in Oregon. It smelled fresh and crisp. The rain in the Northwet really doesnt have a smell, its just grey and depressing. I have sunk to a new level and gone against my morals. My rental car is a Mustang. The problem is that it is a Ford. Ok, it's a nice Ford, but it's still a Ford. Oh, well, I'm only here for two days, so I might live. I fly back out of here on Friday afternoon and will be working tomorrow and Friday, so unfortunatley no time to try and meet up with The MJs. I hate flying. Its not the flying itself, it the hassle of the airport, the uncomfortable seats on the plane and probably the biggest reason is that I am not a passenger person. I guess it wouldnt be so bad if the windows were bigger so you could actually see what was going on, where you are going and etc. Soren

I hate flying.
I vacationed in mainland China this year. Total time from Austin to Nanjing was 32 hours, and it was the worst of these flights I've ever experienced. Cathay Pacific was one of the best airlines in the world ten years ago; now it's cramped and uncomfortable. I also developed food poisoning during the flight and lost several days after arrival recovering from severe abdominal problems. Screw this. Next year I'm drivin' to Seaworld.

We learned a new term on the Kootenay Raid trip this year, "Budgie." After the bird of the same name. Roughly, budgies are those patchouli-smelling hippie chicks who tend to wear brightly colored hemp clothing and have long hair, often dreadlocks. Nelson, BC, is full of them. Watch out for those budgies in Missoula. It's a bit of a hippie town, too...

"We Like It Here" is their motto in Missoula, huh Soren?! Well, I don't know why exactly, but that kind of reminds me of Faber College's motto in "Animal House": "Knowledge Is Good!"
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

You're just all kinds out of your box aren't you Soren. Before you know it you'll be asking your family to get you Christmas presents at the Blue Oval Store.

Head on over to Rockin' Rudy's to shop the wares, then downtown to Higgins Street and Worden's for a spot of lunch. Those places are always on my "trapline" when I visit the city. It'll give you a flavor of why some of us like it here

I am just hoping that I'll be able to break away long enough to get over to the Triumph dealer. In all the times I have been here, there has been something get in the way of getting over there.
The Mustang was the lesser of two evils. The only other choice was a Focus.
Budgies? That's a new word to me. You can find lots of them at Water Front Park in Portland. I think their population doubles on the weekends downtown.
I guess there is really nothing wrong with the motto "We Like It Here", but it's like a car company with the advertising slogan, "We can drive these". Yea, ok, that's nice.

1- About 200 miles east of Spokane. 2- It not a Dodge (although stooping down to a Chevy is acceptable)

Really, you're not missing much. Mike and Betty are nice enough people, but they just don't have a very big store and stock virtually nothing for Triumphs.

Or there is this version. The British hard rock band Budgie was formed in Cardiff, Wales, in early 1968. At first they were known shortly under the monickers Hills Contemporary Grass and Six Ton Budgie before shortening the latter name. They released their self-titled debut album in 1971. Budgie has been commonly described as a mix between Black Sabbath and Rush. The band split up in mid 1988, reformed again in early 1995, split up in late 1996 and once again reunited in mid 1999. Metallica covered the Budgie song "Crash Course In Brain Surgery" for their "Garage Days Revisited" EP. They pretty much rocked.

Not hardly. I took delivery a day before leaving for vacation. I need to make an appointment at the transmission shop before I start driving it. Oh, and I need to register it, too. Then I can start stripping off the old paint.

THAT'S where I've heard the name before (I'm certainly not an ornithologist). That song ROCKS.

When in Montana you will need to be drinking delicious beers like Moose Drool and Trout Slayer. My personal faves. There is some of the best coffee I've ever had is at Butterfly Herbs. I get a pound or two everytime I'm there. Are you not gonna be here on Saturday?

That could also be leftover from a time before the massive influx of californians (and celebs) and before property values skyrocketed. They need to updated it to something like, "We like it here, but we don't like you. Go back."

Yep! And years before that John, I remember all the bumper stickers in California that read..."Welcome to The Golden State. Now please leave!" (and as you can probably tell if you've seen the lastest census figures here, NOBODY EVER took that darn bumper sticker to heart, DANG IT!!!)

You're kidding about the beer, right? You know we have much better beer on just about every other corner in Portland (all micro brews of course and most of them you can only get at those locations).
I might have to check out some of that coffee. I havent heard of it.
Yes, I'll be back in town and at CMC on Saturday. I fly out of here late Friday afternoon.

When I lived in Venice, CA, we had a billboard on one of our major streets that read in bold, black lettering: "We Suck Less"
May still be there today. I loved that town!

There is a town near me whose slogan is
"Where everybody is somebody."
I lived there for a while when we first moved to GA, so I guess I used to be somebody.

You're right. I did go over there during lunch yesterday. I think they had four Triumphs on the floor and bunch of other stuff. I did talk to them for a couple minutes. Nice people.

There's a really small town in Arizona I drive through on the way to Prescott by the name of Hope. It's so small, as the the old joke goes, that they put a mirror at the end of Main Street to make town look bigger.
Well anyway, at each end of the town along the highway there's a sign as you leave that tells you...
"You're now beyond Hope"
(no kiddin'!!!...except whoever made the sign wasn't exactly a master of the english language...it REALLY says..."YOUR now beyond Hope"...I think it's still kind of clever though)
