Had this in the 'NH Dyno' post but thought it may be overlooked.

I've not had the chance to dyno my bike but I do see a few setups similar to what I run. I have SS shorts, open pod filters, 150/45, stock needles with no shims and about 2.5 turns out on the mix screws.

I've noticed that bikes with about the same arrangement (Staffo, Big Poppy) are charting lower HP/Torque numbers than just about everyone else, and in some cases very close to stock. Also it seems a common component of the lower numbers is the pods. I thought by opening up the input, fuel supply and output the power should increase. Is this setup just lame or am I missing something here?

BTW, my seat-of-the-pants dyno tells me that my bike is running stronger than ever.

I've made alot of mods to my bike...something I learned along the way in the process was that change in the way the bike feel's..regarding how it runs..as opposed to changes on paper from a dyno run are 2 different things.


For whatever reason, when making mods to my bike and not dyno tuning it some folks ..on another board..would question whether or not the bike actually felt like it was pulling harder../..running better.

Agreed. Guess I'm just an old digit head that likes to see proof in black and white.

SCC brought up a lot of valid points. if it feels better, it is.
Keep tweaking, you can get it betterer.

I know that when I first side gapped a set of plugs the difference in the way the bike pulled was remarkable. Whether or not this would have shown up on a dyno I dont know, but I have also found that I should trust the seat of my pants as to the benefit of any mods in the first instance.

And placebo do work also.

Hi Doug, I like my torque numbers at (54.1) and for a cruiser it's exactly what I'm after.

Of course I'd like to have more but that's for another day. I recently read an article though on the difference between hp and torque where it was mentioned:

I've also read articles that say torque = "pull back" factor on the handlebars, and I also agree with sheldon ie

Well, that's how it's felt with my changes also.

Staffo, I guess it's easy to get caught up in the numbers and lose sight of how things actually feel. I'm pretty happy with way my scoot is running these days so I should just enjoy it. And when I decide to go for it the 'pull back' factor is most certainly present. Let's just ride!!
