A 1600cc parallel twin provides the motivation for the Thunderbird Cruiser and transfers its grunt via a six speed gearbox and belt drive system. Triumph have advised that an ABS option will be available for the new cruiser but have not released any detailed technical specifications for the new model which is expected to be a 2010 model released in the latter half of 2009.

Oh rats! That looks like a '70's Universal Japanese Bike-the cam covers even look just like a Yamaha 650 I had.

I like it. Looks like it could be my next bike. Overcomes all the America's weaknesses. Twin front rotors, belt drive, way more grunt, and similar good looks.

Well, I guess this should put to rest some of the rumors and speculation!
Not much I would change on this one (Sure, I say that NOW...). It looks pretty good as a stock bike. I like the LED tail light, too. The power plant (to me) resembles what a Victory engine might look like if it only had one cylinder. Wish the tank logo was larger, though.
Can't wait to see it in person. I wish I could be in Ohio for the debut in the U.S. in a week or so.

I think by the time they hit the show rooms I could be in the market. It does kinda have that generic universal look but as long as they don't ever come out with a V twin it still has a Triumph look. All and all I like it.I hope it dosn't come with an outrages price tag

I think we have someone watching the threads in fact I mentioned it tonight at the local meet in St. Annes.
I hold judgement until I can see it in the flesh so to speak, I wonder if she'll let me trade my new speedy in next year or the year after

Dang, so we gonna look at this thing and beat it to death for another year before it is released? I say no, if I remember the Rocket III was an 05 released in late 03. Man I don't know if it like it or not but I'm very excited to see a brand new cruiser in the fold. Sweet Mike Quote:

My only real complaint is the styling direction that Triumph is going. They need to go back to more Triumph looking tanks.

It's a very plain looking bike with little or nothing to set it apart visually. Given that this will probably be significantly more expensive than the America, I might have trouble buying it over a big twin Harley or Victory. I sincerely hope the illustration is not representative of the final product. This is not the direction to take the Triumph name. Jack

I like it, might have to get used to the swept up exhaust cones but I'm sure they will come out with after market stuff. I just wonder where the key goes, down on the side or up by the risers?

Hmmmm. Not my cup of tea. The motor looks like the motor on my old savage single cylinder. Doesnt look like a 1600 to me. I dont know it looks too much like the Japanese bikes like everyone else has said...very little to set it apart. Ill keep my speedy.

If you look closely you can see the ignition on the right side directly in front of the right side cover (just below the front of the seat).

That radiator come off a '67 caddy? It's huge!! On a twin????
Please revert your bikes back to stock guys and sell the accessories here. I'll be looking for some deals in the classified section when you "upgrade" to this monstrosity.
What a shame. I was hoping for much more. Almost fell asleep looking at the design. Hope it looks better in person.
The Rocket actually looks better than this. A radiator is expected on a bike like it. Not this twin abomination.
Makes me want to throw my Earl Grey in the harbor.

Ummmm Tom. Sorry dude. While I agree this design is, shall we say, "uninspired", there's no way in "you-know-where" that it looks worse than the Rocket! Though, I do give the Rocket points for sheer audacity. (so before you dress up like some native american and jump onboard that ship carryin' all that tea and start "partyin'", I invite to take a second look at this new bike...however, as you said, you might wanna take a couple of tablets of NoDoze before you do!)

It won't convert any Harley diehards, but it might divert some buyers who cannot or would not buy a Harley from the YamaKawaZuki showrooms. I suspect that is Mr. Bloor's goal and to date he's shown himself to be nothing more than a savvy businessman.

I test rode the Vision.Like a giant scooter to me.It handled good for as big as it is.Not my cup of tea. I am glad Triumph did NOT get as strange as Victory did with the Vision. I would not mind having a stripped down Vision,no body work and start from there, you could build something pretty cool with plenty of power and good handeling.

I guess minor details can still change, but I'm not a fan of the tank emblem at all. Gimme the Speedy or America emblems any day of the week. I like the fender stripe and it's a nice effort overall, but it is a bit bland. It also seems to be a little empty looking around the engine bay. Needs a little more "edge"... more of the Speedmaster personality. Why a belt drive??? To compete more directly with HD? Not a good idea. Looks like I'll see it at VMD at mid-Ohio in four days - I'm riding my Speedmaster there.

First thing that popped in my mind when I saw the pics is that someone photo-chopped a Truimph engine into a Hardley bike.....
Still want to ride it before I buy a Tigger or a Rocket though...

Don't like it! They have lost the classic twin engine shape. Looks like some piece of Jap Crap! Shame, I was hoping they'd go really retro and turn out a 1600 Bobber

I'm sure the thing runs good and is well engineered. I (like many others) really hate to see them drop classic Triumph looks. They need to get back to bike styling that others want to copy - not the other way around.

I'll be taking the checkbook when I go to test drive it at my dealer. I agree that it's lost some of the old Triumph styling cues, but I am ready for something bigger than the America. When wife and I ride two-up there's too many times I wish there were a little more power down there...

After looking at this from all angles here's the stuff I like:
- belt drive - big motor - EFI - dual front disks
The things on which I remain undecided:
- the styling...looks to me a blend of Victory and a DynaGlide...doesn't really suck, but looks a bit non-Triumph-ish
The one thing I don't know if I can overlook:
- the radiator
If the new offering had basically been a scaled up version (+1200cc) of the America/Speedy, I'd be planning a strategy of how to get one in my garage. As of right now I'm just not sure.

Like I said the other week, by keeping their cards too close to their chest, they run the risk of losing potential mid size cruiser customers if no one knows something is on the way.

You're right, very UGI (Universal Generic Import) looking, at least in the pictures. And I keep hoping, in vain so far, that some clever person might find some less vulnerable and visible way to design a radiator.

Greybeard, wouldn't it be better to say " Universal Generic Lame Import"? Dare I say, you could add " Foreign" in front of all those other words?
