IMO you shouldn't let unreasonable fear influence your decision. The CDI failures are not THAT common. I for one bought my '02 America used,er sort of (800 miles on it) and have since put 36000 hard miles on it, including at least a couple of thousand in the rain, and have (knocking on wood) never been stuck on the side of the road. These are excellent bikes. Obviously those who have had problems are gonna chime in louder than those who haven't. Just buy it and enjoy!
