Very cool. I'm interested although I still prefer the '72 Triumph Spitfire I owned many moons ago.
2005 America, green/gray, gutted stock pipes, tall sissy bar w/ luggage rack, Saddleman's dual touring seat and Tourmaster saddlebags (and sissybar bag).

I had a '73 MGB in racing orange-Great girl magnet, fun toy, no power but at least it had only 1 carb-It needed a clutch and I discovered that the engine had to come out to change it. Well after 12 hours of labor installing said clutch, I immediately put it up for sale!

Good news to see the MG badge back again. May not be a MG to the purists, but at least its better than those hideous MG Metros and Maetros from the 80's.
I do have one question for you guys over in old blighty, what does 135 PS @ 6750 RPM mean? I understand HP, but what is a PS?

That is good news for the people of Birmingham. Car plants create a lot of well needed jobs.
Volkswagon announced yesterday that they are going to build a production facility in Chattanooga, (30 miles down the road from me). It will open around 2010/11 and will employ 2000+ people. To a town like Chattanooga that is a major employer.

Not much different than the current Mini not really a Mini to the purists, but still mostly accepted.

Thank you for showing me this explanation.

The CV rating, or fiscal power, is , where P is the maximum power in kilowatts and U is the amount of CO2 emitted in grams per kilometre. The fiscal power has found its way into naming of automobile models, such as the popular Citroën deux-chevaux. The cheval-vapeur (ch) unit should not be confused with the French cheval fiscal (CV).
Which translates to, Blah Blah Blah, Blah Blah, Ba Blah Blah blar.
Im just going to assume that 135 PS = Power Schallenged (with a silent 'S')

Pferd Strom, German horse power. Used to be a bit smaller numbers than SAE HP, but now it is a little higher. The 61 HP Triumph twins were rated at 62 PS.

From the looks of the photos, I would give this car an 'A' for styling (within the class of cars it's designed to compete with). Regrettably, there are no interior shots to go with the photos on the link, and how likely will it be that this car will comply with the requirements for import and registration in the U.S.? For those of you who had MG's (or any other Brit cars) in the old days and had problems, remember that Japanese cars (and some German - and MOST French and Italian ones) weren't held in very high regard, either for reliability, longevity, or robustness. The difference was that the Japanese and Germans (but NOT the French and Italians) actually listened to the consumers and improved their products, while the British car makers refused to improve their cars or even address or acknowledge major quality/reliability issues voiced by those who bought them. (Dwight and I disagree about the role that trade unions had in the demise of the Brit industry, so I won't even go there.) This is also true to some extent of the Brit motorcycle industry as well. Maybe the new ownership by the Chinese (spit!) will provide a new inspiration to a beloved old marque. They are certainly off to an attractive start!

I thought I read an article online last year (can't find it now) that one of the plants they were going to open is in the U.S.

On a more serious note, I have an original condition TC tucked away in a barn at work. The body and such is in very good condition, although she needs some engine work. I can kill every mosquito in a 20 mile radius every time I fire her up.

As much as i would like to ses MG start selling cars over here, and i would. Can you imagine the trips to the gas station. We think our bikes are 'Guy Magnets', the MG will be just as bad. Old boys comming up to you all day, "I used to have one of those back in the 60's, nice car but always breaking down". Meanwhile all the cute chicks will be swooning over some bald git in his Mazda Miata, zoom bloody zoom

Yep, Brian. Once they heard this news they pulled out their old Whitworth sockets dies and are casting them as we speak!
(and all the NAPA stores are stocking up on positive-ground electrical parts TOO!!!)

I really loved my old red TR3B+. (Started off as a TR3, got a bore bigger than a TR4) For the most part, it was built like a tractor. The rubber bushings in the frontend only lasted a couple of years, but they were easy enough to change. Never could get the Smith and Sons radio and heater to work right.

You guys are as dopey as I was when Budweiser sold me his '78 Spit 1500 for restoration, after he broke numerous tools in his garage out of frustration from working on it. I devoted countless hours to restoring and refurbishing that little POS in a misplaced effort to capture some of the memories in my own past. Once it was done, I had over $12K in a car which was worth MAYBE half of that. Sure, it LOOKED cool as he11, but it was unreliable, the driver footwell was like sticking my feet in an oven, it smelled like gas (and not my intestinal gas, Dwight!), the heater only worked well in the summer, the cowl shook, the seats were uncomfortable, it bounced around curves like it was designed to only go in a straight line, children pointed and laughed as I drove by (which is why I started carrying a super soaker), and, and, and...
It treated me as badly as my first wife did, and she looked hot, too.
I really LOVED my Spitfire(sigh)
The two happiest recent days in my life were when I took possession of that car, and the day someone ELSE took possession of that car.

Well FT, I suppose the news of this MG revival is pretty cool alright, however what I want to know is why a few years ago Jaguar in their "infinite wisdom" passed on a production run of their "F-type" concept car? They would have sold TONS of 'em!!! It must'a been one of those "British Infinite Wisdom" sort of decisions, huh?! WAIT A MINUTE! Jag was owned by FORD at that time, wasn't it?! Okay then, in THAT CASE it must have been one of "AMERICAN Infinite Wisdom" sort of decisions, huh?! (though the way the american auto industry is going lately by mirroring every dumb move the brit auto industry ever made, I suppose you could say Ford is just doin' their bit to keep the "british heritage" alive and well, huh?!)

I agree with you, this F-Type idea was beautiful, however, I dont think Ford had the money or the desire to really pursue this concept idea. Having said that, i sure am glad they wrote the check for this design.

Now i know being a Jag fanatic does make me a bit bias (only a little) but i happen to think that this new XK is simply stunning. And who knows what might come next. The new Jaguar owners have said that they fully intend to back Jaguar with what ever they need and return them to the forefront of beautiful GT cars.
Thumbs up to that

So will they be made in Thailand?
