I finally purchased an Escort Passport 9500i radar detector a few month ago - what an invaluable investment! I normally try to pay attention to speed laws, but I often end up speeding because of inattention - so I justified buying the radar detector. Anyway, today the warning signal went off in my helmet and I was in an area that I knew I was under surveillance. It was a 30 mile per hour zone, and I was aware of the cop before he saw me. To make a long story short, this cop was orgasmic to give me a ticket, but I kept it right at 30 MPH all the way through his turf. He even got 2 to 3 blocks behind me periodically turning his radar off and on, - still, I rode like Grandma.
I have no doubt I would have gotton a ticket today had I not invested in this fine piece of equipment.
BTW, traffic citations cost waaaay more than gas.

I mounted it with a motorcycle mount like this. I power the thing with a Direct Wire SmartCord wired directly to the battery terminals. And I pipe the audio warning into my helmet through a J&M Corporation Integratr IV personal audio system. The Integratr IV interrupts the music (radio or MP3) or the intercom, etc., to warn you of a radar trap. It's great!

This thread reminds me of the one that has the link to the page with different state MC laws listed on it. I was checking that out and you can't even have a radar detector in your possesion in VA (I used to live there). I could just imagine a state trooper there getting a woody over seeing your setup with it in 'plain view' like it is.
