If you don't block the wind over your hands, no heated grips or gloves are going to keep your hands from numbing up when it's really cold. As far as extending the riding season, if a fleece-lined tarp with 2 eye holes in it gave me a few extra days I'd consider it.... Some of the best riding is when it's crisp and cold and all the cagers are saying "brrrr, it's too cold to go out".
