You've probably heard about The Government's latest plan to reduce carbon emissions?:

web page

Worked out the proposed tax for our car. Typical family car, nothing special just an Astra 1.6 L, not a gas guzzler...£300! Thought the £170 I've just had to pay was bad enough. Worked it out for the 1.8 L Vectra I used to own, would have been...£425!
And this is on top of paying the most expensive fuel prices I think in The World?! I also understand that if the UK theoretically managed not to produce any carbon emissions at all, it would only reduce The World's total emissions by I recall around 3% since we are after all said and done, quite a small country!
Interestingly, apparently The Earth's temperature hasn't risen since 2000 and begs the question is the Greenhouse Effect actually as bad as it was predicted or does it exist anyway? Scientists can't seem to be able to agree if it's man made or just natural cyclic variations anyway.
Must admit I'm sceptical, I do know a lot of interested parties stand to make a fortune in the guise of 'Going Green' though...
Maybe we should just all ride But at the end of the day we still need our cars...

Its got bugger all to do with carbon emissions or the environment - its all about raising taxes!!

They only cloak it with these "green" tags to quell the protests!!!

I think they will need to do a turnaround on this one, let's see,

1. we pay a charge now for driving into the town centers
2. we pay a charge for driving on motorways
3. we pay through the nose for petrol..
4. Road tax is high to begin with
5. MOT's go up every year

but it's all all right as it is going to save the planet!!!!!

The change to tax only applies to vehicles first registered after 2001! With the Jeep, you only have to worry about fuel consumption.

Like Nobby says, they give it a 'green' tag so they can charge what they want.
I can't wait to see what my old '92 Merc will cost at 2.0 litres.

I wonder what the bike rates will go up to, over 1000cc is £66 at the mo ... I wonder what a 2.3l bike will be???

At least the Buick is road tax free (classed as an 'historic' vehicle as it's pre '73) but I MORE THAN make up for it in the fuel duty I pay for that thing!!

I'm stating a kitty to buy an island where we can tell the rest of the world to **** off, who's interested?

EDIT:
I just read Nobby's last post about pre 2001 cars ... phew!

I think those of us in the colonies need to quitourbitching. You guys are getting hammered beyond belief. I watched the Will Smith "I am Legend" last night and think all of the worlds governments have come down with rabies but the UK seems to have been hit worse of all.

Knock on wood when you say that. If we elect the wrong politicians, like the Brits did, we'll be in the same boat soon enough.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

In the words of a famous Englishman.

Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

And you're working for no one but me.

Whoever goes out now searching barns and garden sheds for vintage vehicles stands to make a fortune. I think they will be very popular soon.

Or Mallory.... Festival of 1000 Bikes was this weekend. Wash out Saturday.....I got sunburnt yesterday. And no, my bloody old thing didn't go, but my faithful 03 did. But all the bikes - and the stinky 2 srokes... How many fumes from all that? And how much duty from running vehicles on the private roads?????

My lovely Isle of Man registered car (beemer 3 series) got written off last week on the M27. I'd dodged tax (£100 for 12 months) and MOTs for 4 Years!!!

DAMMMM that Citroen Saxo!!!!

You didn't look too bad before you left matey!

Now I stayed out drinking Newcastle Brown and watching Limehouse Lizzy on the stage and got a bit red to say the least. One of those t shirt sunburns - I look like an Arsenal shirt in reverse!

But it was a good show over the 2 days watching Brits trying to be American which made the missus giggle a bit.

The sad thing about it all was the amount of people advertising their cars and motorhomes for sale because of the fuel costs.

I think the government has it all wrong. We tax ourselves senseless to the point of making life less enjoyable and idly sit by and let places like China and India flout pollution reduction targets.

I just think we need to have someone in government who isn't afraid of other countries and with the current choices we have it's not going to happen for a long long time.

Considering the big scare the same doomsayers tried to cause about nuclear winter, I still think this is all going to end up with an EPA summer.
I still can't quite grasp the concept of taxing CO2 out of existence. It's like the scam that California tried some years ago, charging people importing 49 state cars some $300. Somehow, that fee was supposed to bless their cars into meeting CA emission standards.

"but it's all all right as it is going to save the planet!!!!!"

I started out sincerely trying to reduce my carbon footprint, hoking thru my rubbish for the cardboard, tin etc, bringing my empties to a recycling bin, but the more these neo-labour control freaks enforce the issue the less inclined i am to give a f*ck.
