Well guys & gals, I've taken the SS pipes off the bike an reinstalled the stock pipes. Rejetted to 125/42 as well (still using TBS needles & softer vacuum springs too.) bike runs really well jetted like this with stock pipes, as hard as that is to believe.

I just can't stand really loud pipes. My ears ring constantly as it is, and these just make it worse (a lot worse.) I'm not willing to ruin my hearing any more that necessary just to have the "cool sounding bike" factor. I want a bit more tone, but nothing like what these provide. I will continue to wear a fullface helmet & hearing protection as well. These are a must for me. Even wind noise with dead stock quiet pipes will ruin your hearing over time.

I'll contact Dale this coming week. If he can provide me with an 18" long x 1" ID baffle, then great. If not, these pipes will be for sale. On the bike for 3 days.... live & learn.

Thanks,
Jim

That is too bad about your hearing Jim, I am a firm beliver that "loud pipes save lives". Perhaps just as many as a full face helmet. Noisy pipes tend to cut down on the "other guy" factor. People in cars can only see what is right in front of them but they cannot escape the rumble of a booming twin coming up behind them. Not a sermon, just a thought....

I really like the long TORS on my 07SM (no airbox & pods). IMO it's a decent compromise of sound, quality & performance. I demo'd a 07SM with short TORS & didn't like them at all. Go figure.

Well I spoke with Dale from SS yesterday. He's going to try and fabricate me a set of 18" L x 1" ID baffles as referenced earlier. I've still got these for sale at the moment, but will give the new baffles a shot if he can make them, and the pipes don't sell beforehand.

If they do sell I'll buy a set of long TORS. I had short TORS and liked them enough, but they didn't look right with my current "bagger" configuration.

Thanks,
Jim

Yup, that is true. I have Tsukayu Strong hardbags on mine. The long TORS look great with them.

I will chime in with some usless info, going back to your reversing the baffles would tone it down some I am sure.
Look at the old glass pack muffler for cars, the little cups if you would call them are facing forward to catch the air flow. Most shops would ask if you wanted them put on back wards as it makes them much louder. So I would figure the same would apply here, turn them around and they cups would catch more of the sound(gasses). Just my 2 cents

I hear what you're saying Rick but the bloke who makes the SS pipes Dale, emailed me back on this one and said if I reversed the baffles, the fibreglass packing wouldn't last very long at all, like two weeks or thereabouts.

I also ran the same question by the mechanic who did my dyno and he said very much the same thing.

So to quieten the pipes down, there is the option to tack weld a washer with a smaller diameter hole but I'm not real happy with that idea for a number of reasons.

Then there is the possibility of putting in more baffles but I'm starting to feel like I'm chasing my tail on this one and seriously considering cutting my losses.
