"....For people who have vibroacoustic disease (an extreme sensitivity to vibrational noise), it causes breathing difficulty, irregular heartbeats and nausea. ..."
So, if you're a spaz - you shouldn't ride a bike, much less a loud one!!
I read most of the article and skimmed the rest- whats with your title (not ten years after)?

In their About section, I found this: By joining together we can make our voice loud enough to be heardisn't that contradictory to their tenets? This part cracked me up (especially the whole towns part): This is a health and safety issue: A huge deaf population looming on the horizon; Millions of federal dollars diverted to helping that huge population...down the pike; Drivers with reduced reaction times and diminished awareness; Whole towns being held hostage to extremely loud noise by a few people; Police diverting resources away from other crimes in a vain effort to control something too big; A multibillion dollar industry callously profiting from all of this.

"They cover themselves in leather and metal to show how tough they are."
And to think that all this time, I thought it was to reduce roadrash when being run down by inattentive citizens....

Sorry. The band "Ten Years After" recorded an album in 1969 titled "Ssssh". For some off the wall reason, the WWW site evoked memories. They were far from quiet. Great band though.

"Do not approach or attempt to reason with bikers. Most of them are belligerent. When possible, take down their license plate number and call the police. In communities where the police pull over bikers, often they find alcohol, drugs and sometimes weapons. In a few cases, bikers have outstanding warrants for their arrest." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dang, I always pictured myself kind of a well adjusted, happy go lucky sort. Do youth work, hold doors open for people, try to have a kind word for strangers. Didn't realize all the mayhem I was causing. This is very troubling indeed My fall from grace is due to those Epco pipes. Thanks for the post, you made my day. Oh, and I thought the Ten Years After, was about "Ten Years After". Great band.

Awe Freedom, you beat me to the best quote!!! "Do not approach or attempt to reason with bikers. Most of them are belligerent. " So funny. This is like one of those after school specials, or those old videos they showed people in Home-Ec class.

I guess I'll be the Archangel of Doom here again, but go check out that website some more.... These people are against leaf blowers, lawn mowers, and just about anything that makes noise...
I don't find this laughable, I find it scarey. I can agree with them on some of their issues, but the problem is, if they gain an audience, they could really wreak some havoc...

You're right of course. Most of these groups take themselves very seriously and they don't always have a collective sense of humor. Serious business being the conscience for the rest of us. The irony is I'm about wore out from raking & hauling leaves the last 2 days. And company is arriving for dinner in a few minutes. I'll have to ponder this a bit. Now the question becomes, do I ponder better with a 2nd cup of coffee or should I change to Moosedrool?

Some of their points are valid for SOME people, I just hate broad based generalizations as much as th next guy. It's irritating.

Some of it is just plain nuts. Reeks of those old 50's anti pot films. But i can understand it to a point. Just not the BS anti biker cr*p or the notion that anything louder than a hina civic is too loud.(at least thats what they seem to feel) I don't have loud pipes because i like them loud. It just so happens they're loud because it's not possible to get the power gains i wanted with quiet pipes, otherwise i'd prefer them quiet. Not As quiet as the stock pipes mind you.....they're rediculously quiet. But much closer to that than my thunderbike pipes which have people turning thier heads from a block away and sets off car alarms regularly. In hate to say it but i find pipes as loud as mine are indeed too loud. I hate it when i'm watching TV or trying to hear something when a loud bike or car goes by and i can't hear anything for 20 seconds. kinda pisses me off. But i do like more volume than the stock pipes because you can't even hear them over the tappet noise !In fact, tomorrow i'm going out to look for some packing for my baffles to see if i can tone it down some. Guess i'm just not belligerent enough.

There is a similar group concerned about "light pollution." They want to mandate dimmer outdoor lighting and reduce the ambient night time light. They complain about not being able to see the stars near large cities. Of course they want the government and consumers to pick up the tab. It's funny how vehement they get. Fascists come in all stripes.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
