I don't know how you can beat the ticket if you admitted being in the wrong. Here's the NY Rules of the Road.

It's pretty clear about turn signal use at intersections.

I'd love to see every cage that doesn't signal their intention at an intersection get a ticket and expect the same when I don't.

I can't complain if ticketed when I know I was wrong. I routinely break the speed limit and it's just a matter of time before I have to pay a price for it.

Good Luck, but I think the right thing to do is stand tall tall, admit your mistake, and pay the man ......
