I finally quit for the last time about the first of the year. Cold turkey, no gum no patch no hypnosis no toothpicks. I had "quit" about three other times, but the difference with the other times was that I wanted to smoke but wasn't (until I did again). This time I stopped wanting them cause I was just sick of smoking. Got a random urge to have one about a month ago...one half drag was so disgusting I wanted to go lick my tires to clean my tongue off.
The real key (IMHO) is to quit cause you really want to stop, not cause you think you should quit.
Oh and it takes 28 days to form or break any habit, so after the initial couple days when the actual nicotine addiction is gone, the big milepost is your 28th day when the habit of the smoking action is gone. After that, anyone quitting should be home free
Good luck.
