If you can hang on for the first three days, it starts getting better after that. Once you start noticing how bloody nasty smokers smell, you are on the home stretch.
Something that helps is to clean out all the ashtrays and put them away. If you need to leave out one for visitors, be sure to keep it washed out when not in use.
A healthy alternative to satisfy the habit of sticking things in the mouth is carrot or celery sticks. Celery is probably best because (so "they" say) you burn a few more calories chewing it than you gain from eating it.
Watch a lot of Monte Python, Ab Fab and Fawlty Towers reruns. Mindless comedy keeps the brain busy.
