I haven't had a Schiltz in over 30 years, and I feel like a better man for it.

Well, it's better than no beer at all. The worst beer I ever tasted was "Buckhorn". A friend of mine and I bought a six for 89 cents back in '74. We thought, you know, for 89 cents you can drink anything. We both took a drink, threw away the almost full opened cans and gave the other four away. Only beer that was so bad, I gave away. Fotunately we had a case of something else to cover up the taste. Hey, that's a good lounge topic. What the worst beer?

1. No, it's not.
2. Schlitz. Its taste almost made me a non-beer drinker. A close second would have to be Budweiser NA. This is the swill that is sold in Iraq to US troops in place of actual, honest to God, real brew. It doesn't even come close. Still, if I was given only the choice between Schlitz and Bud NA, I'd choose Bud NA and pour some vodka in for the kick. THAT'S how bad I think Schitz is!

Dunk's. Three of us 18-year olds bought a six pack in Florida in 1976 for alost nothing. Even for 3 callow yutes on a budget, after the first few swallows we used the rest to wash our hair. It was horrible.

But I'll wager he didn't have Schlitz on the mind whilst penning those lyrics.
Worst Beer? The last 3 bottles of Point Special I had, drunk over a foosball table while enjoying the ambience of the Upper Wisconsin River Yacht Club, in Stevens Point circa 1976. Each one tasted worse than the preceeding and the first tasted like a brewery worker poured Ivory dish soap in the bottles.

I've never had real Hamms, but they sold 30th Anniversery Hamms all through college. I figure an anniversery shouldn't last 5 years? It was terrible beer, incidently if you heat the above beer on say an engine block for a couple of minutes it tastes just like hot chocolate, at least the first couple of glugs.

OH, Come on! Nobody has nominated Harley beer as the worst??? That stuff is only good to collect the cans, and even the cans want to get rid of it. It's either that, or Schaefer, eeewww... later, Tom.
But, what do I know?

Billy Beer, so awful it ate through the aluminum cans.... Dixie, Iron City, Pearl, and Hamm's get joint ownership of the "Swill" award and Olympia can't be far behind...

Yeah, and I worked there for a time. They had a tap in the front office (between the restrooms) instead of a water cooler. Times were different then...
Remember Hop'n Gator? I can't even remember what it was supposed to be, but it tasted like a mix of Beer and Fresca.

Let us be fair all yee naysayers. Many moons ago the Schlitz family sold their brewery and the new owners promptly went and changed the original recipe, hence they went bankrupt in very short order. Now the original Schlitz relatives have bought the company and name back and are using the original recipe that once made it the most popular brew in America. Or so I read on my homebrew sites. makes good sense to me, I'll give it a try.

Cheapest beer I've had was Olympia. While stationed at Cape Canaveral, a buddy and I during lunch would go over to the Coast Guard Station where they had Olympia for 30 cents a can. We would buy 3 cans and leave a 10 cents tip. Then we would head over to the port to watch the cruise ships go in/out, eat lunch and drink each a beer and split the third.
Worst beer is Carlsberg. Forced that stuff past my tounge in Hong Kong. Unfortunately it was the only beer sold at the landing and I'd been at the bottom of the ocean for over a month. YEP, a sailor will drink darn near anything.

The last time I had a Schlitz was in Viet Nam. It came in a tin can with a good coating of rust around the top but it only cost ten cents a can. The same was true of Millers, Falstaff, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Budweiser. The worst beer I've ever drunk was in Korea and called Makli (A rice beer). It was brewed in a large iron kettle, was white and had the consistency of potato soup to include the lumps. It wasn't even bottled, just dipped out with a cup.
Yes! I am a Redneck. Any Problems?

Well Pat, I gotta admit that this very same tactic DID WORK for Willie G. Davidson when he bought back his old family's concern from AMF a few years back. Yep! I gotta admit that his product has become quite successful again, alright!!!
BUT...you still see ME ridin' a TRIUMPH motorcycle DON'T CHA, dude??? And so, I gotta say that I'm STILL NOT all that impressed EVEN WITH this additional bit o' news o' yours about the Schlitz family's reacquisition here, dude!!!
(in other words, there's STILL NO ACCOUNTIN' for TASTE when it comes to the good ol' "American Buyin' Public", ya know!...yep...I gotta agree with ya THERE alright, ol' buddy!!!)

A bad beer is the one you won't drink when it's the only beer available. While some are certainly better than others, and I have tried pretty much all of them, I have yet to find one I won't drink on a hot day when that's all there is.

Oooooh! In THAT case Larry, you might be interested in this brand new beer I've just heard about and which is juuuuust hittin' the market as we speak here!
It's named....."Any Port In A Storm Lager"!!!
(from an old Schlitz family recipe.....mmmmmmmm....yuuuummmmm!)
If I find myself on a desert island, or on a long ferry ride with only one cheap brand of beer, I may have to try it.

Pabst Blue Ribbon is my regular, has been since college. I like schlitz, and if I'm not drinking pabst, it's usually schlitz, high life, Old Style, Hamm's. Found Stroh's in the liquor store the other day, I haven't seen it for years, I celebrated like a grand reunion and have been drinking it for a few weeks. Whenever I'm in Minnesota I make it a point to bring back cases of grain belt, I love that stuff. Pabst, Hamm's, stroh's schlitz, old mil, lone star, Rainier, pearl, olympia, black label, schaeffer and stag are all owned by the pabst brewing company. www.pabst.com

If I remember correctly, Pabst is not owned by Miller, but Pabst contracts most of its brewing to Miller.

I remember as a kid my dad used to drink Schiltz. He kept in the garage (drank it warm) because mom (being a good Southern Baptist) wouldn't let him put it in the fridge.
Me, not against a PBR every now and than. Think I may even have a Lone Star on the shelf a buddy brought me back from Texas. The worst beer i ever drank was just recently. We were at bike night and they were doing an intro for Heniken Lite, freebees. Couldn't finish the dang thing, tasted nasty to me

I'll give you an official second there Dwight ol' boy. I was thinking of Hamm's as one of the few worse than Schitz.
Since Pat has volunteered to be the Guinea pig and try the new stuff, I'll wait for his report.
