I will truly miss his comedy.. There was no one like him. There are so few people gifted with bringing out a laugh even when you don't want to.

Man this really bums me out, I loved his humor and shared his opinion on many of his views of life in general. I hadn['t heard of his passing but saw this thread and searched his name and the news was at the top of the list. R.I.P. George your comedy will be missed by many.

Pretty good article here with brief over view of his career and points in his life. George

In honor of George, here are the 7 words you can never "say" on television OR BA.com. AUP friendly, of course...

****,****,****,****,**********,***********, and ****.

A comedian makes you laugh.
A humorist also makes you think.

The hippie dippy weatherman has left the building but his humorous legacy remains. Rest in peace, George.

And now here's our hippie dippie weatherman, Al Sleet, with tonight's forecast....

"Hey! Que passo. How's your passo? Tonight's forecast.....dark, with scattered light in the morning!"

Thanks for that forecast, "Al".

(...and also for the many, many other observations over the years)

He was by far the best comedian I ever heard. His play on words and joking about society makes me laugh every time. He will truly be missed.

Apparently this cartoon ran three days before his passing:

Linked because it contains one word that violates the AUP.

He was one of the all time BEST. Only Robin Williams and Gallagher are the only old school comedians left. Even those two are pubs compared to George.

Another person I regard with the utmost respect has left this earth. George was one of those rare souls that combined wit, intelligence and a way of looking at the world we could all relate to but could never put into such eloquent verse ourselves. He was a master of the English language with few peers. The late William F. Buckley was a noted word smith but where Buckley would make you feel linguistically inadequate with his verbiage, George simply pointed out the nuances of our common language and made us collectively laugh and think in ways we hadn't thought of before. This rock, third from the sun, is just a little lonelier without his articulate reminders of our frivolity, spirit and general silliness. Thank you, George.

Death is caused by swallowing small amounts of saliva over a long period of time. ~George Carlin

I didnt know anything about the passing of George. Here i am, its after 12 midnight and Im sitting here in a hotel room in Raleigh NC, watching the Larry King show and there is a special tribute to George on tv.

What a tragedy. I think Jerry Seinfeld said it best. He was the Mount Rushmore of comedy.

He will be remembered as one the the true greats.

RIP George, we will miss you.

I remember watching Carlin on the old Ed Sulivan Show, doing his "Hippy Dippy Weatherman" routine.I rmemeber thinking this guy aint funny at all. I had to age a few years to realize he was probly one of the funniest comics ever.Did manage to see him once live.Glad I did.It was when he first started doing his seven banned words routine.

I remember reading a biographical book about Lenny Bruce back in the early 70's. Besides learning all about new and interesting and sometimes usefull adjectives, it made a reference to George Carlin (he'd made it big by then), sharing a comedy club stage with Bruce somewhere in Chicago.

Let's see Willie & Carlin both hit their stride when they grew pony tails and beards, hmmmmmmmmm. Or as George once said, "Same hair I've always had, it just used to be on the inside", Or, "Gabby Hayes had whiskers, Castro has a BEARD"
