AirHawk & Alaska Leather sheepskin buttpad both work great (I own both.) But I find the Corbin Seat with backrest works great all by itself.

+1 on the Corbin and backrest.
The Airhawk and Alaska Sheepskin covers are nice, but whichever one you use, they're just one more thing to keep track of.

i put a gel pad under the vinyl and installed an alaska sheepskin,,, did a lot of good. on build list for a russell day-long saddle now, if it's as good as the one on the FJR, i'll be one happy little rider.

I have been planning to do a gel insert on Wendys bike but haven't yet. You can get the gel fairly cheap on Ebay and then finish it by covering the gel with memory foam. I posted instructions how to do that quite some time ago with pictures. instructions

I also use the AirHawk for long rides, great comfort at an affordable price.

I should probably sell mine. I've ridden to California and Arizona without it. I put on 638 miles in one day without it and without dying the next day. I think I'm over it. The only problem is they seem to be worth less than half what they cost. Makes me want to keep it just for spite.

Sheepskin might be good. The real deal in black or dark brown shouldn't be too hard to find. You might even be able to slip a little 1" thick memory foam under it. Memory foam (generic Tempurpedic) is all over ebay.
I wonder about synthetic sheep skin vs. breathability. I dunno.
I hear tell gel readily absorbs ambient temps, and can ride hot or cold, depending. ``````````````````````````````` A little OT - Paul (PES) and I figured out at GA '08 that the Triumph factory issued solo seats apparently shipped with different foams. His solo seat foam layer is as hard as a chunka chestnut, and mine is very noticeably softer & more compressible. Real leather would be a great upgrade to it. Maybe one of these days, (if I find another job right quick) I can't tell a difference in distance vs. butt factor with a naked solo seat or with my Airhawk on top, so I tend to leave the Airhawk at home.

I tried a Saddlemen's gel pad the first year I had my bike. It certainly absorbs the ambient temperature. If I left it on the bike in the sun, it was unbearably hot to sit on.
I'm going to give the Alaska Sheepskin another shot. Don't really need it but it might be nice to have. I just ordered the nose strap as my only problem with it is it flops back when I stand up and is a major pain to get it reset before I sit down again.

The stock seat was brutal for me. I used a Buttbuffer over the stock seat for a while, but didn't find that it worked much better. I also find the Corbin with a back rest to have been my best solution. Ian, that was a good link - useful info.

John, I was hoping to, and then ride on to Victoria like I did last year. But I don't know if I can make it this year. I haven't registered yet - figured I'd pay the premium to pay in Nelson rather than pay in advance and not make it. This weekend though I have a Dyno appointment Saturday noon at the Triumph dealer in Edmonton. I'll be taking the scenic route back!! Weekend road trip

I just did 1500 miles, aboout half in temps over 100, the rest in mountains and along a chilly pacific coast. I ordered a set of the beads for the trip and couldnt be happier. I bought the set for me and the pillion and it was way under a hundred bucks. I lent the pilloin set to another rider on a Harly when we were in the desert. He was complaining about sore butt and he was amazed at the difference. I got them from http://www.beadrider.com/

Truckers have used them for years and swear by them. Doesn't the sheepskin seat cover do the same too? Possibly a matter of preference. I can see where yo bum can keep cooler with the beads, as long as they don't permanently dent the seat upholstery.

I had a Corbin till yesterday. I liked it but my butt was too big for it and Karen didnt like it either (her butt is too big for it too...LOL...shes sitting next to me as I type this). I am having a gunfighter made by Rich's . Yes its expensive but I was getting tired of my butt numbing up after 100 miles or so.
