After riding about three hours today, I pulled into a gas station and while re-fueling felt this sharp, needle-like pain in my side.
Reached under my jacket and felt about an inch long welt. Take off my jacket and a bug flies out my armpit.
He had obviously flown into my cuff (which I had unzipped for extra ventilation) and continued the length of the sleeve and on under my t-shirt to my side.
Being a pretty smart bug he escaped when I took my arm out of the sleeve and landed on my knee where I applied the coupe de grace with my palm.

I hate it when that happens. Last summer I decided to take a little ride close to home... in shorts. Mistake! a bee managed to fly up my leg and stung me before I could stop to remove it. Scared the wife half to death with all the commotion too. I no longer wear shorts to ride. Period!

Photo of the English Yankee during one of his bug events back in 2005.

Notice how his jacket is just tossed on the ground?

My ex used to have a bee in her bonnet most of the time.

Years ago, a friend of mine was showing off how fast his fancy new factory made Bonneville was when he ran through a swarm of bees at around 95 MPH. He was not a happy camper.

I had a similar experience, except the bee's stinger embedded itself in my knee at about 45-50mph. First bee sting ever. Hurt like a mutha.

The second time I wore shorts, I burned my leg on the engine cover. Shorts are bad juju.

Yep there's nothing like having a hornet find its way inside your t-shirt, the challenge of trying the find the little devil with one hand and keep moving. The feeling of statifaction and releif when you finally locate (easier to locate once he stings) and crush it. Then the feel of cold dead bug guts on your skin till you find a place to stop....wonderful.

Mmmm, Bugs!

What amazes me is the fact that even in a 60mph 'head-on' bug-to-forehead impact with an insect, the SOB can still find a way to sting you as it fully mashes apart on one's forehead - Like as if the little bast-turd was flying at you 'butt-first'.

Try this; Riding and talking when a bee flew into my mouth and decided to plant his stinger in my soft palate. I started wearing a face shield thereafter.

After a seagull hit me in the chest at about 60mph, I started using windshields.
