That sux Rob. But don't give up on the parts just yet. A friend of mine had one of those old Guzzi lookers, an '84 I believe, and was able to find most parts he needed.
Try Thrifty Rider, or Bike Bandit. A Honda dealer may be able to get what you need too.
Then there's junkyards.

Both Bike bandit and Thrifty Rider show the part as "NOT AVAILABLE"...Tommorrow I'll try the Honda dealers...worse the ****** retainer is still tightly in place...

Rob, Is this a Silverwing as in the 500cc V-Twin, more commonly known as the CX500. If so parts should be easy to find for that bike. The engine was in production for years.

You might have some luck here, http://honda_82_silverwing.tripod.com/I'm about to go to work, so I don't have time to hunt for the part myself. Don'tcha just love those Honda Guzzis?

I have one of those 500s out back , complete bike and I rode it back there. If you want the bike I'll sell it to you but the title is lost, I looked for it a couple years ago for someone else. You can have it complete with the fairing and hard bags and all.

You should be able to get a duplicate title from your local DMV with only a moderate amount of hassle.

After a tip from Dill...I found a jun...errr salvage yard that specializes in early 1973-1986 Japanese bikes...he has many of these parts in stock...so I leave for the trec North Tomorrow to match the broken one up to a non-broken one! Hopefully it will be a match and I'll be 'backinbinis

You might also give Willie's Cycle or Adams and Son (205-477-5721) a try...they have enormous inventories.

a total of 1.187654 seconds once I used the impact wrench...which both pleased me to no end...and REALLY p!ssed me off! (if I had only retrieved the impact wrench FIRST I wouldn't be spending 3 hours traveling back and forth to spend $$$ I don't have to spend...Cripes it could be done and being ridden in the time it will take to retrieve the part broken due to my own stupidity...oh well...at least I FOUND a part to replace the broken one with!!!

Not so simple in this case, I am aware how to get a title since I tow for a living and Wendy is a notary. I got this bike several years ago from the original owners daughter. Her parents moved to Fl. and left her the house and tons of junk piled all over. I hauled the bike, several cars, some power tools and tons of scrap metal of various kinds away for her. I never bothered to transfer the title since the bike meant nothing to me and I just rode it around the back yard twice and threw it where is still rests today. It's the only thing left the rest was crushed long ago. I had actually thought about making a generator with the engine then thought about a trike to play with but never did anything now the title is long lost and was a NJ title to start with. The daughter sold the house and moved who knows where and I don't remember any of their names. I was just offering it up for parts and really have no desire to ever ride it if it even still runs.

Dunno about PA, but in CA, you just need to be able to document a reasonable effort to find the last registered owner or show them a document from the last owner stating that they no longer own the vehicle.

Ian If I thought I would have the bike for more than 1 more season...I might just take that offer...but this is just a transitional ride...but it helps if you can ACTUALLY ride it...thanks anyway!

Ian, and all those who have run into this same problem, check these guys out...
ITS Titles
I'm gonna have to talk to them very soon. My girlfriend just bought an 86 Yamaha Radian X600 and one of my dogs ate the title (I'm not joking). This is about the only way I've found to get a new one since the last person who had it registered is several owners back.

What size? I have a 77 cb550 that I started restoring and lost interest. It's a complete bike that's not put together so if you need something let me know, I'll see if I have it.

Any interest in selling your "basket" case?

In the past, I've kept a few cars on the road thanks to just such jun...errr salvage yards / recycling facilities

Thanks Tim, I know places I can get titles and they even do all the leg work. As long as it doesn't come back stolen you are good to go. I just have no desire to do anything with it, it sits out back totally out in the weather and I don't care at all about it. Was in decent shape when I rode it there.
That's cool Rob it was just an offer if you couldn't find the clutch since I know the clutch was fine when I left it there. I was thinking you would probably have to pay for the clutch as much as I would sell the whole bike for. I had also thought it was a bike you may be keeping so would have a use for other parts in time.

I pulled a good one last week. Finally cleaning out the garage. I tossed 2 Kawaski tech books. Thinking they were for the bike I had sold not the one I'm in the process of fixing. And the odds of finding 2 service manuals for a bike that was only made for 3 years on ebay is slim to none.
