A big problem with bobbing our fenders is that they look a bit weird if you dont lower them. I think this is because the fender doesnt exactly follow the same radius of the rear wheel. It sorta flattens out a bit at the top for the pillon to sit on and then curves down. So when you cut the curve off you just have a fender sticking out and leaving alot of room from the tire.
Heres a pic with 2 rear fenders in it. Of course the hardtail looks better (to me at least)
