This was at my local dealer.

It's not a Triumph, but it is still a twin!
2004 R1200CL Custom 7152 miles

It was on consignment and I have been looking at it for the last couple of weeks. I stopped at the dealer's last week to make an appointment for the Speedy's 12K service and decided to make a formal offer on the BMW.

Tim (sales guy) asked if I wanted to wait on the Speedy's maintenance to see if my offer on the BMW was accepted. I explained to him my Speedmaster was never going to be sold or traded in. I planned on owning my Triumph until death do us part!

On Saturday, Tim called to tell me, they had heard from the R1200CL owner's wife and that he was out of town on business until the middle of the next week.

Monday evening, I dropped my Speedmaster off at the dealer's for it's service appointment. Tim told me hopefully he would hear from the BMW's owner later this week. He also in formed me another person have made an offer on the bike, but I was still the first one in the queue. I thought the owner wouldn't accept my offer anyway since it was below his asking price and the bike had only been at the dealer's for two weeks. I just didn't want to regret not taking a shot.

Wednesday morning, I got a call telling me my Speedmaster would be ready for pickup that evening.
Wednesday afternoon, Tim called to inform me the R1200CL's owner would accept my offer, but the other person was waiting to have his offer made if I didn't want to close the deal. I told Tim, I would be in to talk about finalizing the deal when I picked up my Speedmaster that evening. I figured, I had to wait almost a week so they could wait a few hours on me. I don't like to be rushed on making a decision.

Wednesday evening, I settled up on the Speedmaster bill, then turned my attention to the R1200CL.
I looked it over again for the four time. I couldn't take it out on the road for a full test drive, the owner had let the registration and inspection lapse. The dealer had just performed the 6K service when they got the bike for consignment and it was originally purchase new from their in 2004. I was comfortable with the bike's maintenance history, and at 7K miles it is barely broken in! It has been garage kept and almost show room new and is fully loaded. For the price I couldn't say no. I signed the paper work and they would have it inspected, temporary registration tag on it and ready for pickup tomorrow evening.

I rode my Speedmaster home with a big grin on my face for both being back on my Speedy and the thought of a new bike tomorrow. I felt a little guilty about owning two bikes but I figure I would get over it. I went home to make room in the garage for the new arrival.

Thursday, was a long day at work, and most of my co-works asking why would anyone need two motorcycles, "You can only ride one at a time". I didn't even try to explain, I just kept smiling.
Thursday evening, I picked up the R1200CL and spent a good 30 minutes driving around the local neighborhood next to the dealer's getting familiar with this new beast. Man, it is a different ride, not better then the Speedmaster, just different. I have a whole lot of new things to get acquainted with.

The 40 mile ride home was fun. I have ridden that route literally hundreds of time but on a new bike it was a new road.

Here is a pic of the boys safe at home and get to know each other.
