I think I've narrowed it down to either the D&D's or SS's for my GF's '08 America. Can anyone point me to sound clips of the SS's? I've found this one:

YouTube - Triumph Specialty Spares Exhaust

But the sound quality isn't the greatest.

I dont know of any other sound clips but I love my spares. They are deep, low and loud.

A similar sound would be...slaping a lion and when it roars you got it.

It's really hard to compare exhausts from sound clips. Dynamic range of the recording equipment and microphone quality would make huge differences in the way the same pipes sound. I've never heard a clip that does the SS pipes justice. I guess the only way to really tell the differences in tonal quality and volume would be to compare different ones in person.

True enough even an Audio Technica 4033 into Pro Tools loses a lot when MP3'd.

Ditto - from one who has done considerable tinkering trying to get SS long cannons to sound like Ed's clip!

Just for the record that was an Audio Technica 4033 in an isolation mount on a stand set at rider's ear height and 6 feet perpendicular to the right side of the bike, even with the rider's position. I recorded into my Powerbook via an Mbox set at 24 bit 48k sample rate then reduced to an MP3. The stock air box is fitted with my homemade velocity stack and a K&N filter and I had just repacked the baffles with Moose brand muffler glass, one package per baffle ($6 per pack from Motorcycle Superstore).

Ed, I had been thinking about wrapping a sheet on top of each baffle. What was your take on the effect of adding baffle material?

Each of those Moose sheets wrapped the baffle about 1 1/2 times (after I cut the old burned packing off). I thought it deepened the tone and it didn't seem to abate the volume at all.

If you are looking for decent soundclips of Specialty Spares exhaust, I have found that this guy has some pretty good clips to offer giving samples of both out of the box and modified long cannons.

Sounds like that new packing accounts for at least some of what I'm hearing.
Sounds good.
