I was thinking about getting the Kuryakyn iso grips for my 2004 america, anyone know the part number and if they come with a throttle sleave, and more important are they any good. Thanks for any help guys

Yes , they come with everything you need , and yes , they are great . Get them . You may want to get the throttle boss that screws on , it's just 15 bucks more .

#6236 fits our bikes. I like them and love the add-on Throttle-Boss as well. They are much fatter than the stock grips, that took a little getting used to.

OK, thanks guys, looks like i will be checking out some prices and giving them ago.
with the exchange rate at the moment could be cheaper ordering them from the USA than getting them here in oz.

I know that with the current exchange rate it was cheaper to purchase my iso grips and other stuff from the US rather than here in the UK. Got my grips and headlight and spotlight eyebrows from fast-eddy, good guy to deal with.
I've also bought direct from Kuryakyn in the US, quick service and cheaper, even after shipping, than buying in the UK.

One of my first "mods" and I'm very happy with them. Throttle side fits a little loose, but never had a problem.
Remember to install the throttle side first. Then, when installing the clutch side it'll be easier lining up the grips so that they match.

Good tip. I'd also ditch the glue they send and put them on with hairspray. Much easier to remove later. Speaking of which, when I removed mine for new handlebars it was necessary to use some cleaner to get the glue off. I got some on the rubber grip part. Is that rubber section replaceable thru Kuryakyn? The sun is beating up the areas where I had remover. Quote:

That was my next question, what is the best thing for glueing them on with. dont want them stuck fast before i know whats happening. is that true about putting them on with Hair spray. My My that cant be real.  can it.

You know... I love mine too, however I do want to make this comment: Because the ISOs are significantly longer than the stock grips, you need to be cautious of keeping your hand too far toward the ends, while riding. (brake and clutch levers aren't as long as the grips...)
Anyway, that's just me...

Uh-oh, I was afraid you were going to say that. That lock (Kewlock) is incredibly convenient, unfortunately I went thru two in about three months last Fall. The first broke unlocking my helmet and Kuryakn replaced it. The 2nd broke with my helmet firmly locked in place about 40 miles from home on the Friday of the Labor Day weekend. The wife was none too pleased to drive an 80 mile round trip to bring me some tools to get the lock/helmet off. I gave up at that point and Kuryakn gave me credit on my purchase. I didn't want to risk another one breaking. I used a 3/4 helmet in mine and I don't think that pin locking mechanism is stout enough to handle that weight. Quote:

I definitely wouldn't put that kind of weight on the locking pin. Just remember to carry that small allen-head tool with you to remove it in an emergency. It's SAE btw, not metric. Quote:

$5 solution. I have some key-ed alike padlocks for luggage. I drilled a hole in the left grip housing and hung the padlock. I tried locking the helmet (thru the D-ring) to the padlock in that location, but it was tricky getting it locked. I now just lock the helmet to my clutch lever with that padlock. I store the pad lock in that hole drilled in the grip housing. Works like a charm. Here's a picture of the helmet locked to the hole in the grip housing, using the extension from the Kewlock.  Quote:

Anybody got a quick & easy method to install the ISO grips? I'm having a hard time removing the stock grips on the throttle side. Do I have to just cut it off or something?
Also, do you spray the hairspray directly on the bars? Inquiring minds want to know!

Spray in a little WD-40 and work it around with a small screwdriver, it will come off eventually. I'd rough up the bar ends with a little sandpaper, spray on the hairspray. The new grips will slide right on. Get them positioned and let it sit overnight. Then, go profile the new bling! Edit - just saw "throttle side". It's been a while, but the whole throttle comes off and the new grip has it's own. Just loosen the grip clamps, unhook the cables and pull it off. Quote:

Ok, I got the everything off on the throttle side - am staring at the cable and realizing that I can't find the whatchamadoojy (black plastic sleeve) that holds the throttle cable in place. Grrrrrrr.....

Eh? The new grips come with a throttle sleeve installed don't they? In which case you'd take the housing apart, remove the whole grip and sleeve by disconnecting the cables then install the new one rather than having to cut the old grip off the sleeve.

"D'oh!"  I was starting to get frustrated until I went back and looked at the package again - turns out I'd purchases #6240 - the "Universal ISO Grip" rather than #6236 which has the built-in throttle sleeve. That'll teach me to go somewhere other than newspeedmaster.com to buy my stuff!

Have an air compressor and a blow gun? - skip the wd40, and just use a little air pressure blown at the end of the grip (between the bar and the rubber) and with a little light action you can just pull the grip right off the bar. No problem.
As for getting the kury's on, I am glad I read here to skip the glue that they give you. First of all, the instructions say to evenly coat the entier inner surface of the grip - how in the heck are you supposed to do that? I couldnt figure it out. Second, they say to slide the grip on (after applying the glue) in one swift motion, which I discovered while test fitting, is impossible. The grip's I recieved seemed to be a 1:1 fit. There was not going to be any sliding on in one swift motion. So, panic'd, I came here and read about the hairspray solution. My wife humored me and allowed me to use it to glue my motorcycle grips, and I have to say, the solution worked great!
Now, I am not sure about the grips yet. I installed them last night, and todays ride into work, had me feeling like I prefer the factory grips. I bought the ISO grips because I thought they were supposed to help remove the high frequency vibrations that were numbing my fingers. However, after riding in this morning (20 miles) I could see no difference other than the size of the grip.

I'll tell you that I have had the plastic give way on the throttle body where the cable attachés and when that happens as you probably already guessed no more throttle can leave you stranded if you dont have a good glue kit

I had to sand my sleave off the triumph slide to get it small enough for the grip to fit on,I beleve the throttle was a little looes also,other than that its great.
