well...as much as I hate the way saddlebags look...their convenience has finally won me over and I'm on the market for some small saddlebags. I was wondering if most saddlebags create the need to change the rear turn signals and if the leatherneckjims slants require you to do so. Also if anyone knows of some nice bags that are smaller please let me know. It also seems to me that a lot of the saddlebags that I've found don't lock, is there a reason for this? I would think that it would be better to have ones that lock.

The US Saddlebags are nice, but they don't lock. The hardbags that Brent sells are nice too and they do lock. I've had both and would recommend both. Neither are what I would consider small.

Maybe a little smaller with easy brackets~~bags unlock from brackets~~hope this helps

have a look at the willie and max line, the small slants fit nice and arnt so big. they have a couple of sizes but look at the size of the small slants. they fit very well on our bikes with no interference to the signal lights.  they are not leather, they are imitation (but everyone thinks they are leather) so they hold up very well with virtually no care, i have had my set for 6yrs and have not done anything to them and they are still in very good condition

The saddlemen "drifter slant large" are very nice and the size is an excellent fit for the bike. I replaced mine to get the extra capacity but the smaller size did look better. I'll see if I have a pic.

You can get the leatherneck jim's with a set up to put a small padlock on them to lock them closed. and use easybrackets to lock them to the bike.

Also leatherneck jim gets his bags from leatherworksinc.com if you go to their wet site and click on customizing your bags and go down about 3 spots you'll see their new lock system. They used to have a pin or post set up to put a small padlock on them but that is their new design. The 112's with pocket and the 112+ will fit without turn signal mods. Very good bags. I have the 112 with pockets on mine.

Does anyone have a set of Tourmaster box style bags on his/her America...preferably in XL? What I'm really looking for is will these bags fit as it (with EZ brackets of course) or will the signal lights need to be adjusted? I could move down to large bags but think I would definately get better use out of XL. Just looking to see how much work, er fun, is ahead of me.
2005 America, green/gray, gutted stock pipes, tall sissy bar w/ luggage rack, Saddleman's dual touring seat and Tourmaster saddlebags (and sissybar bag).

I like the Triumph Slant Bags. I am on my second set. The first one lasted 5 years. I also did not want to have bags so this worked for me.

thanks for all the great info.. Toonces what kind of bags are those? Bill....I really like the way those look, and I bet the smaller ones would probably be the way to go for me.

So I think the bags that I'm going to get are the saddleman highway tattoo bags...do the EZ brackets fit on any saddlebags or just certain ones? Will they work for the type I'm considering?

Here is a set for 150 bucks. (+36 for large, +47 for jumbo) The site suggest the use of Saddlemen Quick-Disconnect Saddlebag Docking Post and Fastener Kit. EZ brackets work for most all bags and will work for your Tats. Can't speak about the inboard panel for the tat bags but the desperados required reinforcement.

Sorry to be a dummy Bill, but I'm also interested in some bags and like the look of the saddlemen stuff. So could you confirm if your pic shows the large or jumbo bags.

I have a set of the TourMaster XL Slants installed on my bike with Easy Brackets. They fit perfectly and there was no need to move the rear turn signals.
I would not recommend getting their smaller bags as the there is plenty of room for the XLs and even they don't carry a lot.
IMHO, the TourMasters were better quality than the Saddlemen, but that's a personal thing and a lot of people are happy with them.
Can't speak for the box style bag though.

Appreciate your input. If the XL slants fit fine then for sure the box style will fit no problem. If there were, then I would have considered moving down to a large. But glad to hear I can go with the XL. The extra room with certainly come in handy I'm sure.

Those are the large. The only pic I have with the jumbo is below. I know they make my bike look fat!

Regardless of which bag you get, I definitely recommend reinforcing the inside back for more stiffness. I used Luan, but many people use plastic. I find it difficult to cut plastic so went with Luan instead. Seems to be holding up just fine.

I also have the Large size Saddleman Drifters. Mine are hard-mounted to Honda brackets. I had them on for three years and the backs were just starting to crack. For only $150, it would have been easy just to order a new set but I cut out two pieces of aluminum, painted them black and bolted those to the back of each. Now they're solid as a rock. I had an 18 pack of Yuenglings in long-ways in each bag over the weekend, no problem.
