Nah, Kevin. It gets hot in Vegas too. I wear an armored mesh jacket, full finger (perforated) gloves and a full face helmet no matter how hot. Hot asphalt can cause third degree burns in seconds.
To each his own, but the fact is that they're actually cooler than the sun on bare skin, like being in the shade. Might get a bit warm sitting still, but not unbearable, and who sits still that much anyway?

Sun screen still needed on nose and cheeks, the desert sun is merciless.
