Now from what i read I gather that the cushdrive lets u take off smoother and what not.. Now My dads harly does not have a cushdrive and I was wondering if there is somthing in his clutch that takes care of it or if its just another measure of comfort on a triumph?

The Belt drives on Harley's eliminates the need for a cushdrive like we have on our bikes.

Older Harleys have an adjustable spring loaded cam type primary drive sprocket to do the same thing. Seems like a better setup because it lasts forever but, at the same time, it adds to the rotating mass and slows the engine down.

I was told by the dealer recently that the cushdrive rubbers are used so there is less wear and tear on the chain and sprockets.

Blewey, your dealer was correct. As the driving sprocket(Front Sprocket) pulls the chain, the cushdrive allows the chain to progessively take up slack and provide forward motion. This provides a means of motion without stress to the drivetrain.....Angelis
