Good morning from CT. Has anyone tried any of the BackOFF! products? I'm doing some early morning commuting (well...until it gets too cold) and would like a little extra "attention getters" for my safety. I'm thinking about:
- BackOFF! LED License Plate Frames
- BackOFF! Brakelight Modulator
They can be found here: License Plate Frames ModulatorsThey seem pretty easy to install, although I don't know about the current load of the devices or if the modulator will physically fit in the brakelight housing. Thanks for your inputs. Brad

Thanks for the links, ImOk.
Is the module the RL5000? Does it just plug in or did you do some splicing? I have the shop manual.

The backoff stuff is good. Another great option is the running/brake light rings from electrical connection that you put inside the rear turn signals. Also, this killer LED array from Dual Star is a direct fit for the TBA/Speedmaster tail light. It is BRIGHT and it can be set to flash (or not) depending on what you want. I get comments all the time from other riders about how my bike stands out at a stop light.

I have the BackOFF licens plate frame. It's easy to install and very bright. I have it connected for run and brake (the only options). With my 2 filament JC Whitney (run, brake, turn) rear lights, the BackOFF LED plate frame, and the stock light, I am pretty happy. People who ride behind me at night for the first time are always remarking on how bright it is... Here's my setup (daylight and not lit). I will take a picture tonight of it with running and brake.

Ditto to Frank's question, Todd. I'm diggin' the KLR LED kit.
Phil, thanks for the pic. I might try a mix and match approach: the KLR LED, BackOFF frame and a modulator of some sort.
Brad
[edit] Ooops, I didn't see at first that the KLR LED rig strobes

Yes. Part #RL5000. All the splicing is under the seat and you need the manual. I made some notes on his instructions I could scan and email to you. He includes all the clips so there is no soldering just snap the clips using pliers.
Here is the picture before I tie wrapped.

I had both on my bmw rt1150. They work fine and do a good job of letting traffic know you're coming to a stop.

I've been running both products for a few years now with no problems. I have the chrome frame with a single bar of LEDs at the top ( pic), and the Back-off module wired up so that I can un-plug it, remove it and restore the stock brake light function in about five minutes (including taking off the license plate frame). Never really needed to, though.

If you want something even brighter than the KLR650 kit that you make exactly the shape you want, have a look at this. You'll need to be a bit handy with a soldering iron, and you can tell people you made it yourself. It doesn't flash (yet, I'm looking into that) but there's no reason you can't use an aftermarket modulator with it. Matt
