Have been riding with a couple neighbors who have Harley, who have quick release Sissy Bars, and thinking it would be nice since my son now goes for rides with me on weekends and so my wife would feel more comfortable as well. I also see that there is one now for the Rocket III, but doesn't look like it would be easily adaptable to the America/Speedmaster. Personally I hate sissy bars, but think it would be neat to have one that could mount on the EZ Brackets Lugs for instance. Or, one that just bolts onto the top surface of the EZ Brackets instead of being sandwhiched under the lugs. That way, if I want to remove it, just pull out 4 bolts and put the Sissy Bar away without removing the EZ Brackets and Saddlebags.... I could draw one up I think, but have no one who could make it. Any interest?

I agree that it would be nice. I don't really like the look of the sissy bar when it's not in use. I just helped my neighbor put one of the removeable ones on his Harley a couple of weeks ago...it works well and is easily removed. Installation was a lot more complicated than it seemed like it should have been. Even something that works kind of like the Protac drivers backrest should work: Posts of the sissy bar that slide down into brackets that stay on the bike.

Ive been tossing around a couple ideas in my head cause the wife doesnt wanna ride unless i got something for her back there. What i might do is mount a backrest pad to the pillon sorta like the drivers backrest in the tech vault, only for the pillon. My wife just needs a little something to keep her from sliding off and shes only 85lbs so im not worried about bolting anything to the fender struts. But I was also thinking that if you had those ez brackets you could have the metal pieces that fit over the struts with a larger hole to fit over the bigger part and then a smaller channel so you put the sides on and slide it backward to lock it into the grooves. Heres a quick sketch, it'd still need something to lock the brackets into the grooves, and it needs a way to fit around the total width of the ez bracket and then be able to squeeze inward to fit in the grooves

I'm looking online right now, and there seem to be some various stock ones out there from Honda, Yamaha, etc... that I might be able to modify to fit. I'm thinking something with the bracket attacked, and drill/tap mounting holes in the side of the EZ Brackets. Then I can use just the brackets/saddlebags, or both, and if I want to remove the sissy bar, it'd just be 4 bolts. I'm still working on a sketch, but if I can find a modify/fit solution, that'd be quicker. I'll post something as soon as I find it.

Does one of these work for you, I have one on a Speedmaster. It might work good on an America if they dont have that quick release pin under the seat that had to be bolted to the fender. http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=2704

Jake, that might work GREAT. Actually saw something similar on another website, but wasn't sure about the fender curvature. But, if it works on your Speedy, then it'll work on the America. The Americas (at least the older ones like mine) have a M8 (I think) threaded hole on the fender instead of a stud for the quick release system. I know during the '03 Georgia Rally, a couple guys (I think Robert was one of them) swapped seats from a Speedy and an America without much of a problem. Think you just solved my problem. How sturdy does it seem?

I think the only recommend a 10" bar for the mount, works good with the short bar. I would not use a taller back rest with it. Passengers no longer feel like they are going to slide of the back, especially bad with the gunfighter seat. I drilled a second set of holes so it rolls forward a bit on the fender.

I use a one from Haulenass.com, Its for a HD deuce and was really easy to fit with just a few modifications. I can remove it in no time by taking the seat bolt out and then one more bolt under the seat(SM gunfighter).I would post pictures but have not figured that whole thing out yet.

steelz21, do you have a part number, since there are several listed. I like this one even more than the other option (since it's one piece) Here's a pic of one on a Harley... .JPG)
