my youngest daughter (32) was out with her boyfriend on his gixxer and went down. from what i am told they were going around a corner and his rear tire caught a pot hole and highsided them. she will be wearing a solid neck brace for several months, broken shoulder, broken collar bone, fractured skull (even with helmet on, Mi. has a law)and bruised leg, feels broke but x-rays show no break. he sez he was doing "at most 35mph"??? seems like a lot of injury for 35??? CROTCH ROCKETS!!!!!! *&^%***&^ be extra carefull you people up north with winter just getting over i am sure there are pothole's big enough to park a volkswagon in and i remember how dangerous they can be.

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Thank God they are around to be hurting. In a few years this should be a good story, right now it's a lot more. I pray that both of them come out of this ok.

Hope she she heals fast but i know from experience a collar bone takes a long time to back back to somthing close to normal.

35 he says but as you say &^%$* crotch rocket.

We have the pothole problem here as well road in front of my house looks like the moon. This may sound goofy but what I do this time of the year is, Go out in the cage and scout the roads I frequent and make a mental note of the craters.
Granted that dosent work if a trip off the usual paths is taken.

Best wishes for their speedy recovery.

I don' think the speed matters, it's how they impacted. I know I wasn't going too fast, when I went down in early April making a turn on a road, yet I landed square on my left shoulder. The impact sheared the "ball" from the bone, so now I have a new implant in my upper left arm that costs more than a well equipped new TBA.
I also busted my left ankle and big toe.

Yet, I see videos of high speed bike crashes and they walk away from them or have just minor injuries. Just not fair.

But again, best wishes for her recovery. Make sure she keeps a positive attitude during recovery. With all that she has to heal, it's crucial not to let her get discouraged by all the gear she has to wear and the therapy. Things will improve and she will be the better for it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your daughter Newt, it's got to be a tough business for you right now.

Considering that a test dummy's can flex as much as 2" inward in a 35 mph simulation I'd guess your daughter is really lucky she didn't puncture a lung or have an even worse injury. Bones will heal, especially young bones, be thankful they weren't zipping along at regular sport bike speeds.

I'm with you---I DO NOT like crotch rockets!

Hope they both heal fast. My son got in a bad auto accident a few months back down in Florida. Thankfully he was ok also. A bit banged up, but ok! So I can relate to how you must be feeling right now. Glad they are both still with us.

Here's to a full and speedy recovery!

Seems like the low speed falls do more bone damage while the high speed get-offs do more skin damage. Something to do with sudden impact vs. asphalt scrubbing off speed I guess.

Now comes the hard part - waiting for the healing.

Best thoughts & wishes for a full recovery for your daughter Newt. That's a laundery list of "dings" she accumulated.

And wise words for road conditions. Yesterday I encountered loose (ball bearing) gravel and obligatory potholes. Anticipate the unexpected people, ride safe all

Sorry to hear this and speedy recovery, He may very well have been going 35 more or less. Injuries can be very bad at that speed , especially if he high sided. That would kind of sling the rider and even more so the passenger sine that person has nothing to hold onto and in a crotch rocket case the passenger sits higher up. Not saying he was going 35 but it is possible. That being said, fractured skull in a helmet would tend to suggest he was going faster and may I join in to the @#&*&&$#@ crotch rockets choir (sp).

First off, she'll be in my prayers till you drag your sorry azz into the shop and tell me she's doing good again.

Like I said today, going over the high side is more often then not, damaging. I know this first hand, and reminded of it every day.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I have a buddy of mine that was riding is sportster chopper that was going maybe 20 mph around a slow bend. Rear tire hit a small crater and he topsided (he used to be a bike cop and has plenty of training). He broke his collarbone and right wrist. 3 months later he was riding his rebuilt chopper. He told me that if he were wearing a jacket with shoulder protection, he probably would have only broken his wrist. He now rides with a mesh jacket in summer time that has elbow, back and shoulder protectors. This happened before I started riding. When I started, I got the right gear for the type of riding I do. Crotch rocket or not, gear can reduce injuries.

Anyway, accidents happen to the best riders and the worst.

Again, wishes for a speedy recovery

Ron

thanks everyone!!!!!! i was able to talk with her for a moment today only for a moment!! she is in a great deal of pain and was dopey, but well enough to say she loves me and after the pain go's away she is gonna feel real good. (family joke, i been sayin for yrs, thats gonna feel real good....when the pain go's away) so apparently she hasnt lost her sense of humor. of course i wasnt able to get any details, but my brother (a doctor) looked at all the info and sez it will be alright in time, if all holds the way it is. she had just come from more cat scans when i talked with her as they are watching the brain. but like my brother said, if she made it thru 48hrs everything should hold. i will be going up there this wknd to see for myself. i was gonna send a card but, i think i will deliver!!!! AGAIN I CANT STRESS ENOUGH, ITS SPRING UP NORTH AND THE ROADS SUCK AND CAGE DRIVERS ARENT USED TO SEEING YOU YET!!!!!! BE EXTRA CAREFULL!!!!!! i will get more of the story when i see her and i will update when i find out more. thanks again to all for your prayers and well wishes!!!! she's my baby and i cant imagine her not around (the little pain in the ******) hahahahahahahaha i can only figure this, she must love her boyfriend a lot cuz she is not someone to ride on the pillion, she likes to be in control, (with everything) and even though i was the first to put her on a bike (in diapers) she still has to tell me how much she dont like being a passenger before she will ride with me. hahahahaha
