Anyone have experience with the Triumph "fly screen" or similar small wind screens? I want something to take some of the blast off my chest without causing helmet buffeting.

Well. I'll offer an opinion. Those flyscreens are...for what they cost virtually useless. They are at best ornamental when compared with a "true" windscreen.
If you want something that is functional in terms of riding comfort, utility and practicality then a full windscreen of which a fair number of options are open for pre 07 models is your ticket.
Some will never use a windscreen but I find them indispensable for touring. Try riding 850 miles or more in one long day without one and you will find the final three to four hours of your trip to be less than comfortable. All those miles of wind slipstream hitting you head on in the upper torso , head and neck will wear on you.

I bought a Flyscreen after 17k without a screen, and have to say that it takes a lot more wind off my head and torso than I expected it to. Most of my riding is in excess of 70 mph, and I still would not consider the need for a bigger windscreen any kind of priority. It does make for a little more windnoise, no buffeting of the head, just noise as the air rushes over the top of my visor (full-face SHOEI RF-1000), so I wear earplugs for that now, and probably should have worn them before. Better looking and less conspicuous than a larger shield, too. Works for me.

I use the flyscreen, I like it, I think the big ones look hideous. When riding, its simple to just move you hand around and you can feel where the air is, it takes much of the air off the chest, it does a nice job ( unless you want a complete windshield, but a car/truck does that well enough ).

I have the Triumph Flyscreen with the lightbar. You will notice an improvement as compared to no screen. My head is in the breeze, but there's no screen-induced buffeting. IMO the Triumph flyscreen is a worthwhile item.

The only way I got my flyscreen to buffer wind was to put my chin almost on the tank console. The air is a lot smoother without it.

I find my flyscreen to be a definite improvement in comfort by the end of the day while looking great. A lot less effort to hang on to the bars due to the pressure being off my chest. It's not a full windshield, but if I wanted one of those I'd get a tourer, or take my car. I give it (dart) a definite thumbs up.

If you got the bucks, go for a Windvest. Not that big, you still get the breeze, but it's a breeze - not a blast. And no head buffeting.

Thanks everyone, lot of good input.
Big problem I have with full windscreens is the head shake. I had a Rifle Soloshield on my last bike, and my TBA came with a Slipstreamer. No amount of adjusting on either of them got rid of the buffeting. As far as comfort on long rides, I can stand getting blasted a lot long than I can stand having my head in a paint shaker.
Btw, I ride with a helmet. Maybe the buffeting isn't so bad without one, but that's not an option in my book.

I just put on a Triumph flyscreen a month ago, and I love it. I'm 6' 2", and I wear a Scorpion exo-200 helmet, a 3/4 open face, with face guard. I get no buffetting on my helmet, but that could be because of the helmet's shape. When I had a full size windshield I got my brains scrambled, so went without until I tried the flyscreen. I found that by adjusting the position of the flyscreen so it is more vertical, then it throws a lot of wind over my head, instead of at my head

Amen...It's the adjustment of the flyscreen that's key. Got mine just so and away went the chest pushing and wind buffeting. And since switching to full face, 80mph slab runs are actually pleasant. SteveB

I like my flyscreen. It takes a lot of pressure off the chest area and still keeps my face in the wind. I needed to spend half a day getting it in the right spot-no big deal. Just rode around with a few wrenches-stop every 20 miles-and founf the sweet spot. All screens need this IMO.

Well I have no experience with the flyscreens but based on the physics reality of them I dont see how they can possibly do anywhere near as good a job as the "true" windscreens for creating the nice little quasi-vacuum for the chest, neck and face.
After a really long day with no screen if feels like someone has been steadily slapping my neck and face for hours. (essentially that is what is happening) resulting in a soreness and tightness as you fight this effect with your neck muscles and shoulders.
As it is with my Memphis Shades and the lowers the upper chest, neck and head exist in a nice little pocket of space that is free of any significant buffeting.
At 80 miles an hour if you look in your mirror with no screen at all you will see the facial muscles and neck flesh being distorted and blown about by the "G" force of that full on 80 mile an hour breeze.
With a good screen on calm day I think you could comfortably let a cigarrete dangle between your lips with no worry about it being ripped from your mouth.
Eyeglasses and wraparound sunglasses stay in place comfortably.
The inclusion of the lowers cannot be underestimated as they further reduce that bit of air/turbulence that rolls in over the tank and tends to hit you at face level.

I have a color match fly screen. It works MUCH better then nothing when on the highway. I use a skid lid helmet and get no real buffeting but there is still SOME wind blast.
I get a little more buffeting with the summer screen but not as much protection witht he fly screen.

I'm not sure anyone said the flyscreen helped with the "face", but whem I place my hand outside of the screen at speed ans then move it across my body to the other side the wind is a non factor rom right behind the flyscreen all the way back to the front of my jacket. It's very still air from the lower chest up to the neck.

Years ago I had a KZ1000 with a Vetter fairing on it. It was a very smooth ride. I could wear a ball cap and smoke cigarettes easily, even though I was looking over the windscreen as opposed to through it. So yeah, if you put enough plastic up front you can all but eliminate the wind.
The helmet also makes a big difference. I wear a HJC Symax-II flip-up, and the buffeting is FAR less than it was with my old full-face helmet. Still too much to put up with on a regular basis though. I only use the Slipstreamer for cold-weather riding.

National Cycles now has mounts for Triumphs for there Switch Blade Line. They have three different styles including there "Deflector", shield. All three attatch to the same mounts. They pop right on and off with NO tools required and the Deflector is adjustable for rake. Call and ask for Steve Cihlar, and he will hook you up with everything you need. #866-983-2465 Ext.146. If you want to run with the wind in your face, the mounts are not obtrusive and you can run without the shield.

And this set up will work with 2007 and later models?
