My 03 TA was 17/42. I went to 18/42, then 18/43...
I ride solo and I'm happy with the 18/43, but I've also installed the TBike pipes, drilled the slides, rejetted, and drilled the airbox with a K&N filter and a Jenks velocity stack in place of the snorkel.
Hole shots don't mean much to me, and most of my riding is 2 lane roads or local highways.
The moral is: if you upgrade the oomph a bit, you can get away with a higher ratio.
