The difference is that the Harley needs 6 gears because the engine redlines at 5500.
The Triumph only seems to need another gear because it just doesn't seem right for a bike that heavy with that size engine to be able to pull that well.
As for stock sprockets, the Speedmaster comes with a 16 and America with 17.
